Things that frustrate us all

My mom had to take the car in to the repair shop today and of course they didn't call until just a little while before I go on my evening bike ride, and my mom had to use my bike to get there. It's super windy, like 20mph - 40mph winds tomorrow, so now I probably won't be able to go out Friday.

It finally warmed up enough that I was able to go out on my morning bike ride today for the first time in about a week, and about half way through it started to rain on me, so I had to call my mom to come get me with the car. Of course it stopped raining by the time she got to the park where I was waiting, but I was cold and wet, and it was getting windy, so I still waited and went home in the car.

Spotted on the shipping information page for a UK-based company:

What... what witchcraft is this?! Are we not considered part of the world?! :wtf:

Canada and South America together make up a not-insignificantly-sized landmass. If that percentage of the planet could take up to 4 weeks, wouldn't it just make more sense to list "Worldwide" as "2 - 4 weeks" and leave it at that?

Also, can anyone explain why the red line takes a week longer than the blue line (and usually costs double or more, to boot!)? OK, yes, sometimes the international deliveries go to Mississauga instead of Montréal, but that only raised the distance to 5730 km. And I actually have no idea if New York is actually the receiving hub, I just used it as an example. If it is actually further inland, then it would be a longer distance too.

(OK, yes, before someone points it out, I know I oversimplified by only counting the shipping to the import hub. The page actually says time to delivery, which will be affected by how long the package waits in customs, and whoever does the domestic delivery in the destination country. But reading about shipping woes from Americans online, I don't think we have it any particularly worse than they do in that aspect.)

I guess I should be thankful they even ship here. Some companies are OK with the blue line, but can't even be bothered with the red line. I live 1 hour from the US border, and some companies won't ship to me at all, but one hour away on the opposite side of the imaginary line? No problem! :sigh:
The red line looks like it is going near Montreal which would require navigating the Fleuve St. Laurent. That route would be 1,336km from the Atlantic Ocean, adding more time due to the slower speeds on rivers.

1. I have a cold, and I was going to visit my grandfather for his birthday with my mom

2. OFMD is cancelled, but there is a petition going around to save it. I hope it will have the same success as prodigy's petition did

Admittedly I don’t order a lot from the UK, but the few things I have, have always come by air. And yes, you’re right, the red line was supposed to be to Montréal. The two main customs clearance centres in this half of the country are in Montréal and Toronto, and so I believe packages usually arrive at either Montréal-Trudeau or Pearson. (I believe Vancouver handles arrivals on the west coast.)

Nice work with the map, I don’t think I could have drawn a line that follows the river that well. :)

Last night there was a water main break on my street.

So the resulting ice (it's butt-cold around here) has literally trapped me in my house. I can't even get out of the driveway.

I can't go to work, I have no food, and I'm bored as hell. :sigh:

Several businesses and homes have suffered that too around here. Local grocery store has ice skating rink for a parking lot

I'm over winter.

It was sunny and in the 60s here today, I actually got so warm during my afternoon bike ride I had to take my jacket off. We're supposed to be in the 70s by next week.

Post reported lol

Going to be minus 5 here this week and that's cold. Though typically for UK we get temperatures fluctuate wildly and expected to be in the low teens next week..

C that is.

Since it's been brought up, I also hate multi-factor authorization, especially with ecommerce sites using payment providers like Klarna or Shop that sends a one-time code to your phone or email instead of just using a good old-fashioned password. Well, I don't always have my phone on me. So then there's no way to continue because if I try to go the email route, then I have to log in to my email in a browser. And then it sends a confirmation to my phone before it will let me in! :scream:
