Things that frustrate us all

Having been there I feel for you.

You will work out the source I'm sure but it's sometimes so hard.

Hugs.
Thanks. *hugs back*
The heck of it is that I know stuff that’s on the surface. I’m working on my workplace’s auction, my voice has been seriously muffled for 45 days now, and I’m organizing school tours for my class. But whatever this is, I’m not pinpointing it…

Spotted on the shipping information page for a UK-based company:

What... what witchcraft is this?! Are we not considered part of the world?! :wtf:

Canada and South America together make up a not-insignificantly-sized landmass. If that percentage of the planet could take up to 4 weeks, wouldn't it just make more sense to list "Worldwide" as "2 - 4 weeks" and leave it at that?

Also, can anyone explain why the red line takes a week longer than the blue line (and usually costs double or more, to boot!)? OK, yes, sometimes the international deliveries go to Mississauga instead of Montréal, but that only raised the distance to 5730 km. And I actually have no idea if New York is actually the receiving hub, I just used it as an example. If it is actually further inland, then it would be a longer distance too.

(OK, yes, before someone points it out, I know I oversimplified by only counting the shipping to the import hub. The page actually says time to delivery, which will be affected by how long the package waits in customs, and whoever does the domestic delivery in the destination country. But reading about shipping woes from Americans online, I don't think we have it any particularly worse than they do in that aspect.)

I guess I should be thankful they even ship here. Some companies are OK with the blue line, but can't even be bothered with the red line. I live 1 hour from the US border, and some companies won't ship to me at all, but one hour away on the opposite side of the imaginary line? No problem! :sigh:

Strange. I would be curious what Canada's import/export laws are and see if that has an impact on it? Or this is a company simply not sure what customs will do and just going "Eh, here's an estimate. Who actually knows?"

I don't order from the UK as a rule because I'm not willing to play with shipping and other such costs.

Our de minimis is unfortunately ridiculously low compared to the US (C$20 vs. US$800 (about C$1070! )), but that shouldn't really affect timing. Unless they're allowing for the fact that because of the low value, more items need to be assessed? But typically things only seem to spend a day or two in customs, and that honestly doesn't seem to be any longer than what I've seen reported for the US.

I don't order from the UK as a rule because I'm not willing to play with shipping and other such costs.

Although I have ordered things from the UK before, I try not to do it often for the same reason. In this case, it was a gift for someone, and this was the company that made the item. Fortunately, I was able to find the same thing on Amazon Canada, so was able to buy locally instead of importing.

But I do have to order things from the US more frequently, and that's still a major expense. It's especially galling when it's from a state nearby, and it costs a bunch to travel a couple hundred kilometres across the border, but the same thing could travel much farther to, say, California for free. :sigh:

Shipping anything here from outside the country is an expensive proposition. I'm sure people from Australia can sympathize, as I hear it's a similar issue for them.

Two words:

Customer. Service.

I've been having trouble with our DVR and wanted to take it to the Comcast store, but I have to call the customer service line first. So I'm waiting on the phone while the Comcast person tries to figure out the problem. I can't get a replacement DVR unless they can't figure out why the old one wasn't working. So I'm sitting here on the phone while the person tries to figure out what's wrong. But she can't figure it out. But I can't get a new DVR, either.

They will call me back after 2 hours and let me know what's going on.

Probably because there are already established trade routes that are taking packages to that place from the shipper.

The occasional orders across the border might be less frequent so cost more.

Doesn't make it less frustrating. Just a possible reason, especially since California is a huge trading hub inside the United States so freight moves in and out of there regularly.

My mom is sick. My wife is sick. Her mom is just now getting past a cold. And I've been sick since the year started. All of us at various stages of sick.

Frustrating start to the year.

There's a lot of nasty viruses going around. My sister got sick, so my niece got sick, so my hubby got sick.

I hope you feel better soon!

Been having tooth pains since Christmas. Admittedly, I take take terribly good care of my teeth and haven't been to a dentist is probably 20 years, so it's no one's fault but mine.

Living in rural Ontario has its perks and its drawbacks....... One such drawback being that my can't get into see a dentist until March 1st...... ugh.

Sorry to hear that. If you can handle it, cold stuff like popsicles will numb your teeth for a little bit.
