Things that frustrate us all

i bought a pair of nice suede adidas sneakers a couple of months ago, i was really happy with them.
today, the right shoe started to make a loud sound, EVERY step....like im killing a mouse.
i got squeaky shooes, ah nice.......

An indoor flea market type place in my area specifically forbade masks once the health department lifted the mask requirement. I can kind of see what they're thinking, as it's located in a sketchy area and masks could make it harder to identify thieves or vandals or whatever. But I won't be stopping by there any time soon.

Kor
Yeah, I don't think I'd like that. I haven't been wearing my mask, but I don't think I like the idea of places banning them outright. I'd still like to know I have to option to wear one in there if I want to.

Got a comment AI-marked as spam on Facebook that no human would ever think was spam.

I posted a comment on a post about Wilt Chamberlain: "If they have to change the rules to slow you down you must be doing something right."

It is absurd that Facebook lets things be marked a violation of community standards completely by AI without even being glanced at by a human.

Or, the owners are radical anti-maskers forcing their agenda the same way they are protesting the Gov. did.

I was just at a huge swap meet last weekend to get a phone screen replaced ($45 :)) and it was a mix of masked or not and nobody, Staff or not, cared one way or another.

I look at pre-political sites on masks that haven't been poisoned by the back and forth
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16490606/

Conclusion: The N95 filtering face piece respirators may not provide the expected protection level against small virions. Some surgical masks may let a significant fraction of airborne viruses penetrate through their filters, providing very low protection against aerosolized infectious agents in the size range of 10 to 80 nm.

Politifact may not have been aware of that.

Now Monkeypox is fatal--and there are folks who have not taken proper precautions against that. The religious right laughs at those victims, and lefites think it is funny folks who don't wear masks get COVID. I find this callous. None of that is funny. We should love our fellow human beings--we all have foibles.

Isn't Monkeypox spread by close intimate contact though? So the precautions we take against that would be the same ones we take against gonorrhea and chlamydia.

It's not funny when an anti-masker or anti-vaxxer gets COVID, it's just harder to see them as victims. Especially at the beginning, it's not only their own lives they're risking purely out of stubbornness and selfishness.

Even very low protection is better than zero protection, besides everything we do carries some degree of risk it's just that most of us try to reduce those risks. Though I suspect many find it harder to have sympathy for those who oppose vaccines/masks etc.. who end up getting the condition those measures are meant to reduce reduce the risk of getting.

Nichelle Nichols is dead and my father has been hospitalized with a pneumonia..... Tomorrow is my 44th birthday, but I won't be happy....

So, I had this notice taped to my door last week saying they were coming to do their annual inspection, which is fine. I go ahead and lock Caesar and Antony in the bathroom with food and water and leave a note taped on the door saying that the cats are in the bathroom, don't let them out and please take note off the door once you've finished with the inspection, so I know to let them out.

I got back from work to find my note still taped to the door, so I went down to the office and asked if they had done the inspection. She said "Yes", however, the notice was just a general notice taped to all the doors and they only entered a few units which they knew had issues.

Why then tape a notice to all the units? Why did I leave my cats locked in the bathroom all day worrying someone might accidentally let them out? Is it the management's way of covering themselves in case something comes up?

Got a new kitchen faucet since the old one started leaking. Took me 3 hours to get the old faucet uninstalled. It was so hard to get to the nut holding the faucet on to the bottom of the sink off.
I think I've discovered a slight case of claustrophobia.
I finally got it off and gave a triumphant roar. :klingon:

Basin wrench can often help, although if it is really corroded, might need something stronger.
Harbor Freight Tools has them for $6.

Vin Scully has passed away. :wah:

For all of us L.A. folks who are Dodgers fans (and even for those of us who aren't), Scully was one of the most familiar voices on radio. He announced the Dodger games from 1950 (when the team was in Brooklyn) until 2016.

Sad news, but 94 is not a bad run. R.I.P., Voice of the Dodgers.

As an old Western division foe--Cincy Redlegs--I agree.

I made the mistake of responding to a DM I got on Instagram from a girl asking about my dogs' names. The conversation started out innocent enough with me answering and pointing her to my page if she wanted to see pictures of them, and she showed me her dog. But then she asked me if I live alone, which really made me uncomfortable, so I deleted the conversation, and blocked her. I don't usually answer DMs from people don't know, but I figured I'd try to be nice since she was just asking about the dogs, and now I'm back to not breaking that rule again.
