You might want to ask the podiatrist about having that pesky ingrown toenail laser-zapped. A medical pulse laser is used on the edges of the nail bed and that part of the nail doesn't grow anymore. Your ingrown nail is permanently cured. The only caveat is that you'll need pain medication for a few days following the treatment (it's basically a small, controlled third-degree burn).
I had that done chemically a few years ago. Best decision I made in regard to the issue. Yeah, it hurt for a few days, never as bad as the ingrown problem, and it has never come back.
