@Scribble , are you on insulin? Is it like LADA? I'm always curious, there are so many types.
With type 1, even taking great pains doesn't always lead to success. I ended up having some radishes with hummus, hit a high of 174 around 6am and corrected, but I'm still adjusting to a new insulin and my sensitivity seems to be fluctuating rapidly depending on whether or not I'm on my period. So I overshot with 1unit and dropped to 60 by the time I got up at noon.
It's been an interesting experience these past two months. I was diagnosed at twelve, so managing diabetes is old hat, but in my mid 20s it became harder and harder to control. I went on a pump about 6 years ago, and that helped me bring down my A1C a bit, but I was still running in 8s and 9s at best.
A couple months ago my CDE and I decided to try going off the pump and switching to the newest insulins. They've been life-changing, and my A1C has already dropped to 6.5. But getting used to the sensitivity is insane. I've always been really sensitive to insulin, but now a single unit will drop me over 100 points. My carb ratio has is about 1:50, so i've been having to try and draw up tiny little half units.
Then I get my period and my sensitivity goes down, and just when I think I've got that figured out, the period ends and something like last night, where a half unit dropped me from 174 to 60 happens!
Still, it's overall been an awesome experience. I'm still on a CGM but it feels so good not to be connected to a pump anymore, and my health is so much better.
