The question is does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?. Is a moment of inconvenience worst than a lifetime of mental illness? People get to move away from him and forget him once he is out of sight and out of mind but he still has the mental illness. If that is what he has then I would say he kind of has the worst deal out of the whole thing. Not that I don't understand getting angry. Of course people going to be pissed when they are insulted. Not only that they will get pissed even if they know he can't help it. I don't think the whole tolerance or turn the other cheek thing means you don't stop getting pissed at people even if you kind of know it's irrational. It's more about putting it perspective and trying not to overact. With this guy I guess It would be more of a bite your tongue type of deal and not make the situation worst. Of course he could also just be a regular jerk since nobody will ever know. At which case though the idea of it not mattering that much once you move away from still applies. Only time real assholes really matter is when they have power over you or they are somehow also a big part of your everyday life. Like family or co-workers etc. Random guy on the street I don't think would count.

The question I asked is in many ways a 'your mileage may vary' kinda question. I know people who feel mental health issues do nothing to remove responsibility from a person (Its a diagnosis, not an excuse) and I know people who think it does. I agree with what you, Kor, seem to be suggesting which seems to be a case-on-case basis depending on the situation/person/illness (we have a bad habit of treating the phrase 'mental health issues' like all mental illnesses are the same (like we do with drugs) - when they are not). There may be varying levels of culpability depending on the person's understanding of social interactions.

Jayson, I wouldn't discount the affect that abuse from a random guy on the street can have a persons day/mood.
Oh , and on the thread topic - 'Things that frustrate us all', having just mowed the lawn - I'll like to nominate bin bags which collapse when you try to pour the contents of the mower-box into them, tear when you lift them and people who cause large queues at the entrance to the recycling centre because they want that one parking spot next to the container they need to go to, instead of taking any of the ten others available simply because they are lazy and they don't want to walk an extra 30 yards between their car and the disposal container.
