Things that frustrate us all

I'm going camping next week. Just car camping but I was digging through gear and remembered I used the last of my water filter in Kenya. So since it's prime day I figured I'd order more, get them on sale.

They changed the size/threads of the filters so the filters are "no longer compatible" with bottles made before 2022. So they want you to also buy a new overpriced bottle along with the filter.

Fuck that, I'm just switching to a different filter.

The ac is set to 76... and the inside of the house is still showing that it's 93 degrees!!

This heat is insane. I'm down to wearing just my boxers, and it's still not enough to keep me cool. Proof of what I have always said... "If you're cold, you can always add layers. If you're hot, even after being naked, you're screwed."

It's why I'll always take cold over heat.

Sounds like your AC is busted. It's 99 F outside here. Our A/C is set to 76 F...and it's 76 F inside.

You should check to see if the refrigerant has leaked out or if the coils have frozen over. We used to have a really crappy, puny A/C in our old house, so we had to check on it all the time.

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNN...

STANT HEAT!!!!

I know the coils aren't frozen over because I checked them already. As far as as coolant leak, I've been starting to wonder about that already. But we already had it checked a few days ago, and it is fine. Plus, at night the temperature really comes down... and cold air does come out of the vents. (This I checked earlier today... each vent blows out cool air.)

Is it very humid where you are? I think that can make it harder for AC units to work.

I'm the opposite, I'll take the heat every time over the cold. I can go out on my bike rides when it almost 90º outside, or pick up dog poop or get the mail when it's 120º with no problem, but once it drops under 40º I'm absolutely miserable.

If you have them come out again, have them do a temperature check at the vents and the return. We had our complete system replaced last week and in their test, the farthest vent was blowing out 62°F and the return temp was 75°F.
And like @auntiehill said, ours is set at 74°F and it's that temp inside, even now at 9:30P when it still 95°F outside.
edit to add: The new thermostat tracks the hours the unit has run per month and since the install last week on Thursday it has ran only 65 hrs to maintain that 74°F. 65 out of a possible 156 hrs.

South Florida is very, very humid. It always is. It seems like there is not a single day that goes by where it isn't highly humid in Miami.

This is going to sound perhaps strange (or maybe this is more common than I think)... but touch screen devices seem incapable of detecting the fingers from my left hand.

My cell phone, those devices in a restaurant where you can pay at the table, a tablet, etc... why is it NO screen accepts the use of my left hand?

I'm right handed, but there are many times when it's occupied (working on something and playing and pausing a 'how to' video on it, finishing my meal and getting the bill ready, etc.) and as a matter of efficiency, I'll use my left hand to attempt to use the screen.

But for some reason, my left fingers don't seem to register on any of these devices. It's like a ghost trying to use a touchscreen. Why can't these machines just accept getting touched by my left hand?

No strange at all. At least, from my experience. My wife has low normal range blood pressure and cooler hands than normal and she struggles with touch screens a lot.

Not sure why just one hand unless your work has resulted in eroded fingerprints (I'm missing three) and that impacts the function?

That's certainly possible. I worked in Frozen Foods (between Publix, Nestle, and Whooe Foods) for about 24 years. Maybe my fingerprints did erode in that time... though I can see the striations of prints of each of my fingers on both hands at this very moment.

It's not just the striations (I still have those) but a consistent pattern.

Or it could be a cheap touch screen that needs a beating for me to tell it things.

Or I could be talking out of my ass.

@Farscape One Google 'zombie finger'
https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/06/zombie-finger-and-touchscreens/index.htm

"So what should you do if you have zombie fingers? You might try licking your fingertip or, better yet, applying a water-based moisturizer to your hands. And, if you can't bear to give up playing electric guitar or having designer nails, think about using a touchscreen stylus to funnel the electricity into your mitts."

Zombie fingers? :guffaw:

So I guess I'm THE WALKING DEAD in my house. I have to say, I have never heard of that before.

Licking my fingertips to do this seems a bit extreme... not sure I want saliva on my phone. And mousturizer... just no. A stylus might work for tapping a letter, for example, but would that work when I want to scroll a page up or down?

This will sound odd, but I have had issues with touch screens at a doctor's office. I rub my hands together to heat them up and use it then. Sometimes helps.

I've tried that on occasion. It never worked.

Maybe I am a zombie and it's just that my left hand was the first thing to go...
