    We already took it down and took it to another room. The noise is still coming from within the ceiling/attic---there's just a hole where the detector was, so there's either another one up there or a battery of some kind inside the attic. Otherwise, I would have smashed it to bits already.

    Hubby took down ALL the detectors upstairs on his lunch break and the noise finally stopped. I guess they were all wired together (?). Anyway, it's quiet for now, THANK GOD. We still have the one downstairs, by the stairs and kitchen. It has dawned on us that we haven't bought new ones in 15 years, so yeah, time to buy new ones.

    Ah...blissful quiet. :bolian:

    My computer's hard drive appears to be dealing with a problematic hard drive...

    CRAP. That sucks. I hope someone was able to give you a jumpstart to get you home.

    Thankfully, yes. Seems to have been fine since but I'm looking at possibly getting a new one tomorrow. I know the one I have is one of the sealed units so I can't refill it or anything like that:(

    I just found out it will be two more whole months before I can spend any time with my mom. She lives in a senior place. That will total 5 months!

    I hope all goes well. The time my car battery died and then I replaced it, the new battery also died in short order. So the problem actually turned out to be a bad alternator, which cost about $500 to replace.

    Anyone else not a fan of mask selfies?

    Online is a place I go to pretend things are normal damn it! :)

    I'm not a fan of ANY selfies, to be honest.

    Especially the ones with selfie sticks. I would not exactly lose any sleep if those were banned.

    Normal selfies are fine so long as they are the kind "Hey I want to share this cool experience I'm having" and not the kind "Hey look at me aren't I the best?"

    A couple for me that (seem to be prevalent/annoying) out here in Hawai’i:

    1. Ridiculously loud / souped up / car & truck exhausts (‘Fart Pipes’);
    2. The seemingly mandatory need to have countless tattoos all over your body (Just IMO, but... ugh);
    3. Setting off fireworks in the street/park for any & every particular reason, esp in the early morning hours.

    YMMV, of course.

    Cheers,
    -CM-

    Chipmunks do this thing where they squeak loudly consistently once per second and continue for several minutes. And there’s tons in my yard. UG!

    At the risk of sounding like an old man I hate loud cars/trucks/motorcycles. To me, there is zero reason to have it, makes the owner sound like an insecure egomaniac who is in a rush everywhere they go. A friend of mine enjoys riding motorcycles and I struggle with just out much they irritate me.

    Dang it!

    I had my whole day planned around watching the launch. Had all my snacks out, got all comfy on the couch with Junior...and they scrubbed it. Phooey. :(

    Oh well. Maybe this weekend, then.

    It's been silent all day. But at 4 pm - a time when any craftsman goes home - they start drilling holes with (by the sound oif it) a pneumatic drill, right under my apartment. Couldn't they have started their infernal row a few hours earlier when we had a thunderstorm to drown the noise out?

    The sun is irritating me.

    Right now I'm sitting in my favorite recliner with my laptop, and reading various threads, and outside the sun goes behind the clouds and the room becomes dark. No big deal right? So I turn on the lamp on the little table beside me, and suddenly, the sun comes out again making the lamp unecessary. So I turn it off. Instantly, the sun goes behind the clouds and the room is dark again.

    This has been going on for the last 40 minutes. God, or somebody somewhere is clearly fucking with me.....

    ^ I've always been convinced that life has a sense of humour. Unfortunately, it's a pretty grim one most of the time.
