Things that frustrate us all

I was watching a TV show with the captions on, and the captions incorrectly said "pouring over" a couple times when a character was actually talking about "poring over" documents, etc. She definitely didn't mean spilling coffee on them or something like that.

If you know Cheers, you know about Norm's lines.

There's one where it goes like this:

Woody: How do you feel Mister Peterson?

Norm: Poor.

Woody: I am sorry to hear that.

Norm: No, I mean, pour!! (pointing at the tap).

;)

When a child goes way beyond their play boundary and you have to take the car out to find them.

And then, when you get home, your sandwich breaks the laws of physics to jump out of your hand and on to the floor.

When my sandwich hits the floor, that's a sure sign that I should go back to bed.
I'll normally work through my typical illnesses, and I'll use my "sick" days more for mental health days, when I just don't feel like working.
Me too! I figure I'm miserable anyway, better to be miserable at work and save the off days for kids and the missus! I also try hard to share my misery with my co-workers those days. :ack:

Oh, it pisses me off when any yahoo talks about NASA as if its taking some huge amount of money away from social programs/the taxpayer. (The average American* believes that NASA gets around 24% of the federal budget.) LOLNO.

*People of the land. The common clay of the new west. You know...
I sense it's about time for another thread to debunk the notions that too much money is spent on the space program, and that it isn't relevant to us ordinary people here on Earth.

I measured my room again last night trying to decide if I'll rearrange it (again).

It's 8-inches longer than it is wide so technically I could gain 8 inches for my desk chair, but if I were to turn my bed, it will not fit against my back wall because then it will be in the way of my back door leading outside and I would need to leave a little space to get by my bed if I had it toward the front of my room which would then negate the 8 inches I would have gained by spinning it.

So, I'm kinda stuck with things the way they are.

I really wanted to get a new desk but the one I was looking at is 30-inches deep as opposed to my current 24-inch-deep desk. I hardly have enough room for my chair as it is. I think they only gain is that I could move the rack under my desk and I'd have more room for my chair to tuck under when I'm not using it, but I would still be squeezed when I'm actually sitting at my desk.

I've never had one, but have you considered a Murphy bed?

People who keep calling you to say the same things again, again, and again!!!

I know how that feels. The local government/environmental health harassed me for nearly three years with that toxic behaviour as part of my noisy neighbour problems. Had to disconnect my home phone and change my iphone number because of the stress.

Circular conversations in general aren't nice or clever. Maybe blow a whistle down the line the next time it happens?:guffaw:

Got a call at midnight that my 85 year old Mom was in the hospital with pneumonia. I was awake most of the night, worried. Had to work online today, until just about 3pm. Got a text that Mom was sitting up, eating but coughing, still feeling crummy.

Have to work tomorrow and hubby has a gaming day tomorrow. I am trying to convince him to leave early so we can drive up to see her.

The whole family was going to get together at Mom's on Monday for 4th of July week. One sister is flying in with her kids on Monday; other sister is just 5 minutes from her, and balking at having to deal with everything, like looking after Mom's dog. This is the person I usually describe as loser-sister but that doesn't begin to describe my contempt.

i would drive up Sunday on my own but my tires are bald, my breaks are bad and we're expecting storms all weekend.

I am a giant ball of tension and anxiety. Mom had TB as an infant, and any bad virus usually ends in a chest infection for her. But she's 85 now.

I'm freaking out.

It's hard when a loved one isn't doing well and you're not close by. I hope your mom feels better soon.

When you get punished again and again for being the target of some maniac!

@Discofan , I suspect I know what this post is in reference to, and I am not particularly happy about it.

I have mentioned this in this thread before. Maybe not to you directly, but it has been stated. To reiterate:

This thread is NOT for complaining about your fellow posters.
This thread is NOT for complaining about moderator actions.

As was stated in the post issuing you the infraction, any comments should be directed to PM. That does not mean go talk about it in another thread, such as this one.

The thing is, if I am correct in my supposition, then this post would warrant a flaming infraction. (As would your post in the "Random Fact" thread; don't think I missed that one, either.) The only thing saving you from receiving the infraction, is that you didn't mention anyone by name, and there is a tiny sliver of doubt that this post (and your other one) may be referring to something off the board, and the timing might just be a grand coincidence.

So I suppose this is your lucky day. If I were to be so bold, I might suggest that instead of continuing to blame others for your woes here, some introspection regarding your own behaviour might not be out of line.

I trust we will not have to repeat this conversation in the future.

This is frustrating. The conversation about High School with the kids. Everyone wants the best for their kids, but when your child wants to go the shitty local shithole school because that’s where his mates will go and because the grammar school isn’t mixed sex. Argh.
