Things that annoy you off about TOS

Was it originally "piss you off"? If so, why did it get changed. There's not a profanity rule on this board, is there?
I believe the use of profanity in thread titles is frowned upon. In actual posts, you can use whatever the fuck language you want. :techman:

I honestly didn't even know that "piss" was considered profane.

If they had to change it, they could have at least removed the "off" so the title still made grammatical sense.

Would you tell your mother to "piss off"? Probably not, so it may not be the best word choice for this sort of thing. haha

I'd bet leaving the "off" intact was an innocent typo.

Hmm? "Pissed" is not a cuss word. :vulcan: At least...that's what my mom tells me. :D (*Gets shot for being a dork*)

(*Comes back to life*) And now--back to the topic! :p :)

It's reasonable to assume the rules are different for a ship that is out on the frontier like Magellan, but the Enterprise is always going back to starbases, so that idea sorta flounders.

That's one thing that bothers me about TOS - the Enterprise seems to be on a rubber band, as near to or as far from Federation territory as required by the particular story.

They were sent to certain planets if they were in the vicinity or whereabouts! I mean they didn't know that the Constellation or the Exeter were even missing yet they were sent to investigate the disappearance of the Defiant in The Tholian Web!

How can they be dispatched on Federation business when they are also on a mission of remote exploration?

It would make sense if the Enterprise at high warp was a lot faster than subspace radio. The ship could whip off to some vast distance, explore the far reaches, and then pop back to domestic space for orders and supplies, at which time it gets dispatched to ferry the Dohlman to Troyius or something.

Of course, that is not the case. Subspace radio is never said to be slower than the ship, although older fans like myself might recall David Gerrorld writing that it had to be, probably in The World of Star Trek (1973). And the ship does go long distances, like in "Where No Man has Gone Before."

It's actually more of a possibility than I thought.

Say it takes 20 weeks to travel 500 light years. Subspace radio may take 5 weeks to contact you when you're out that far. It may be faster than the ship but will still take some time to reach you.

Not to open a can of worms...but the JJVerse has somehow been even WORSE about this after only two movies.

Because they weren't.

They've been to four planets in the films. Two of which are in Federation space and one of which is right next door to it.

This.

Starships have always moved at the exact speed the stories need them to. The Enterprise in TOS could travel 1,000 light-years in 12 hours ("That Which Survives"), it was going to take the Enterprise two years to cover seven-thousand light-years ("Q, Who") and Voyager could only travel a thousand light-years per year in their series.

Also, in Star Trek V, the Enterprise travels to the center of the galaxy in just a few hours.

Yeah...and Vulcan and Kronos are treated as if they're right next door. Less than a day's travel away!

Same thing happened in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

On a Galactic scale and in terms of Star Trek they are.

In TMP. Spock got from Vulcan to the Enterprise, which had just left Earth, in a short amount of time using a suped up shuttle.
