Things I wish DS9 had done...

I don't think having Rom as Grand Nagus was so bad. He'd be continuing Zeck's policies, and probably still getting advice from Moogie. The additional economic activity of females making and spending latinum was making many of the wealthy Ferengi even wealthier, and they've got to like that.

In general, I think making Rom Grand Negus was one of the symptoms of the worst issue with DS9 - the "small quadrant" sydrome which resulted in too many of the regulars/semi-regulars having inexplicably jumped up roles in the Trekverse.

The way the show depicted the Ferengi Alliance in particular made it seem like Feringinar was some small town off in the distance, rather than the capital world of a medium-sized interstellar power.

I'm not sure it's much of a problem. Indeed, it reflects some realities: cities at major junctures, like ports and borders, often exercise important political and diplomatic roles despite their size and being on the periphery would suggest. Being at the wormhole makes DS9 more like Istanbul or Strasbourg or El Paso, places where high amounts of traffic bring with it other types of non-economic activities. Moreover, the emigre communities in these places tend to be regarded as resources to their mother countries. A bartender might normally be a bit player in political affairs, but being on the station may be enough to significantly elevate Quark's stature.

I understand your point, and thus I think it's plausible that the theoretical leader of the Ferengi Alliance would come to Deep Space Nine from time to time.

It is, however, not plausible that he'd just by some weird coincidence happen to start dating Quark's mother.

Rom, as Grand Nagus, should have sent a few Ferengi marauders to fight the final battle at Cardassia with the alliance.

I always wanted to see the TNG privateer/marauder-type Ferengi in DS9, at least once. It would have made sense if a couple of DaiMons had shown up for Zek's announcement about the new Nagus, or if some if their ships had fought in the Dominion War. But it's as if the more militaristic arm of the Ferengi alliance had completely disappeared.

It has been probably mentioned here many times before but wasn't Michelle Forbes asked to be in DS9 but she refused?

She refused to a long term commitment. As far as I know she was not unwilling to appear as a guest star.

I agree having Rom as Grand Nagus was dumb. If they spent more time earning it like with Vir, it could have worked. But we’re supposed to believe Ferenginar went from male dominated lasseiz-faire capitalist totalitarianism to egalitarian parliamentary social capitalism over the space of two years.

And they basically spring this whole change on us in the space of one conversation. They didn’t explain or earn how the culture fundamentally reversed itself so quickly. At minimum, in the final ten episodes they would have needed a Ferenginar arc where the Nagus and Quark’s family gets attacked by capitalist fundamentalists pushing back against the change.

There was that homicidal maniac who liked the knives in The Magnificent Ferengi.

He was an oddball, apparently not caring much about latinum.
The TNG ferengis were heavily motivated by profit.

I like the idea of Jake embracing Ferengi culture as a counterpoint to Nog embracing Starfleet.

Quark and Jake getting up to mischief would have been fun.

No. It sets up personal issues that Sisko must work through.
Yes, but it also established a very personal reason for Sisko to dislike the Borg. And usually in sci-fi, weird stuff usually happens to force characters to face their fears and demons in a very literal and direct way.

He has no fears or demons regarding the Borg. He harbors bitterness that his career led to the death of his wife.

And thank G-d that he didn't harbor some vendetta against the Borg: he'd be another hero with a girl in the fridge.

I agree with those that liked the Borg being nowhere in DS9. They got used to much already. Voyager used them a bunch so the last thing would be to have a trek sister show using them too.

I really don't like what Voyager did with the Borg, but a crossover with DS9 might have been neat. Especially if there was only one of it, throughout both shows.

What about Voyager stumbling about a Borg cube on the way to the alpha or gamma quadrant with the Voyager crew trying to sabotage or stop it and the DS9 crew later being able to somehow destroy the ship with the Defiant.

Might have been a way to show the full potential of the ship as a anti-borg vessel, as First Contact was underwhelming in this aspect...

Some kind of Sisko/Borg confrontation. The first episode sets up a huge grudge and it's never followed up on.

Yeah, I would just liked to have seen even a stand alone episode involving the Borg. Not even a whole fleet on an invasion - because that usually involves a deus ex to resolve. But maybe Sisko and and the Defiant crew dealing with a crashed Borg ship.

And I'd love to have seen one episode with Sisko and Picard having to team up and work out there differences (Because it was obvious in The Emissary that Sisko did NOT like Picard, or forgive him for his actions as Locutus.)

I would also have liked to see at least one or two TNG characters show up for Worf's wedding. Or at least even send a video message.

I can't see Rom surviving as Grand Nagus too long, he's a doofus and doesn't have the devious elements of the entrepreneurship raider aspect which I'd seen from the Ferengi on DS9.
