Things I wish DS9 had done...

I wanted to see Sisko and the crew have to deal with the Borg. Because the Borg and their actions were a big part of Sisko's life.

And along that vein, I wanted to see one episode where Sisko and Paicard had to work together, because of Sisko's resentment of Picard for killing his wife when he was Locutus. We got a brief view of that tension in the pilot when Picard gave Sisko his mission...I always assumed it would be followed up and and maybe resolved at some time in the future. But it never was.

Andorians. I wanted to see Andorians. I think it's a shame we never saw Andorians in any of the TNG era series. (Hopefully they will show up inn Picard.)

Bajor finally, formally joining the Federation. It seemed they were always building up to it...then we never saw it.

I always assumed it would be followed up and and maybe resolved at some time in the future. But it never was.

It was resolved at the end of Emissary. After his experience with the Prophets, Sisko is able to let go and finally grieve Jennifer's death properly. He lets go of his misplaced anger, and finds a new focus in his life.

Bajor finally, formally joining the Federation. It seemed they were always building up to it...then we never saw it.

They were building towards it. Until the Emissary advised that they should wait. And it's a good thing he did, it enabled Bajor to survive the Dominion War.

I'm happy with what the novels have done with the Andorians.

I would disagree about the Borg being a big part of Sisko's life.

The loss of his wife was a big part, yes. The Borg was simply the catalyst for him losing her. The Prophets helped him get past that and move on, so there definitely was no need for the Borg to reappear on DS9.

Given how animatronics can be problematic at times, I can understand why they didn't have Andorians on DS9. By the time of ENTERPRISE, the technology was improved and I agree with the producers that it was the right time to bring them up to date. And they did them well.

I agree about Bajor... I would like to have seen Bajor become a member, too. That might be the only major thread of the series that was not resolved by the end of DS9. (While the advice of Sisko was ultimately the correct one, it was still a danfling thing at the end.)

However, just like in real life, things do get left unresolved, so it does give it a sense of realism.

The absence of the Borg was a good idea imo. TNG authors had written themselves into a corner, unlike the more elaborate Dominion, the Borg are an overwhelmingly powerful adversary, that can barely be defeated without dumbing them down (Voyager *cough*), retconning them weaker, pulling a new miracle weapon out of the hat, or deus ex machina. I wouldn't say decent Borg stories would have been impossible at that point, but rather difficult.

I wish DS9 had finally introduced a real romulan character. The Romulan Star Empire is one of the most significant powers in the Trek universe, and yet there is no one to the present day. Tomalak and Sela are essentially just some evil guys.
They had three great missed opportunities.

1) The Romulan prisoner who helps the protagonists escape from a Dominion facility.
2) The officer stationed on the Defiant to operate the cloaking device who inexplicably disappears after the "The Search" two-parter.
3) Last but not least, Cretak of course.

I'm just fine with the series being borg-free after the pilot. They were way too overexposed in the other series.

I think it was better that Bajor was not shown to join the Federation. It is clear that they are on that trajectory (especially after Rapture), so joining the Federation as a plot development would have been forced and uninteresting. Once the studio put the kaibosh on hard Bajoran political story lines, making a good story in that line would have been near impossible. Instead, the series follow more interesting stories. In the end, it was the people of the Federation who, to some degree, became Bajorans (most notably Sisko), showing the other side of diversity and assimilation.

No, Morn should have been leaving. "When Morn leaves, it's all over."

Also, Kira should have been the one to kill Dukat. She made a vow to kill him, in "By Inferno's Light."

And you can add me to the list of fans who think we had more than enough Borg already. They jumped the shark when the started having centralized queens, making them easier to kill, completely contradicting the initial character.

Yes, it would have been a nice touch to have Bajor join the Federation. (I guess that means the entire Bajoran militia would be assimilated into Starfleet?)

I wanted a much more interesting exploration of the Bajoran religion. When you think about it, the best Trek aliens all have one distinctive feature to signify them: The Vulcan's and logic, the Ferengi and greed, the Klingons and war, the Borg and loose-hanging tubes...

The Bajoran's are defined by their religion, but it is actually quite loosely established... sort of a flimsy Catholicism. I'd have loved a deep dive into the culture...maybe even a storyline with Bajorn jihadis.

About the Borg, TNG had the Borg few times and I think that was enough. Somehow the Borg feels like an enemy that can't be used very often. If you beat an enemy on every season few times, how scary can that enemy be after that? Laying the foundation for Sisko was enough of Borg for DS9.

Voyager on the other hand had too much Borg stuff and although introduced in 'First Contact' the Borg Queen ruined the whole Borg concept for me, at least for everything that happened after that movie. (I avoid First Contact' these days)

As a TNG fanatic, I think having Worf visit DS9 for few episodes would have been fine but taking him as a part of the DS9 crew, I'm not a fan of that decision. Worf = TNG character for me, not so much DS9.

6 seasons of Jadzia and 1 with Ezri.. not a fan of that decision either.

I wouldn't have wanted the Borg in both DS9 and Voyager.

I would have liked Ro to appear in DS9 though. Whether recurring or just one off. Because she represents a kind of Bajoran we don't see that much of in the show. Bajorans who aren't religious, who didn't spend the war on occupied Bajor. Kira would have a particular problem with her so forcing the two of them to work together would be great, especially in a context that relates to prophecy.

Yes. The Kira role was supposed to be her, and she refused.

Later they wanted her on Voyager, and arguably created the whole maquis thing just for an excuse to include her. She refused again, and her character became Torres.
