Things I Will Miss About Disco

I absolutely love the discussion they had about Zora and that whole scene where she, the living ship becomes part of Starfleet as a member. That's how I took that scene to be that Discovery herself is a member of Starfleet.

Was that Season 4 or season 3? Either way that was probably the best part of the entire season. Zora became one of the most interesting things about Discovery for a 3 or 4 episode run, and that conversation was a very Star Trek conversation.

That was season 4 I think near the middle of the season.

Star Trek pushing new boundaries. I don't think we'll be getting as much LGBTQ+ representation or "first times" like Tilly's "Fucking cool!" or Klingon bewbs ever again. We'll never get so many cool new looks for ships, aliens and things. It's only going to be the familiar retreaded over and over until it become unprofitable again.

Sad but that's life, thanks gatekeepers

One thing I am gonna miss is that DSC will apparently never do a companion episode to ENT's "Future Tense". I just watched that episode and I was hoping (against hope) that DSC would do an ep that explains things, like where that ship came from and who the pilot was.

I FRICKING love the episode "future tense" and in my head that timeship came from the time period they are in right now from 31st Century Section 31 perhaps, or the time police if they are still around.

That was the 30th century, which Admiral Vance said in season 3 was the time of the Temporal Wars and why all time travel is banned across the galaxy now.

Pretty much. On the flip side, DSC will be spared having to be dragged along in this continued direction with the rest of Trek. It'll stand apart. Ultimately most of Kurtzman Trek is just Berman Trek without misogyny.

The golden age is DSC and the first season of PIC. The S31 TV Movie will be one last shot across the gatekeepers' bow for old time's sake. I feel like SFA will play it pretty safe, and the only people who'll be "offended" will be the people trying too hard to be.

and with long storylines that end up making no sense, and with very questionable aesthetics and camera work

i figure 8 to 10 years until suddenly Discovery is liked by people who forgot to hate it, and discovered by new audiences once the streaming services shake down into whatever they will be by then, the same way ENT got reevaluated. The imperfections will still be there, same as ENT but it's been worth it just the same.

There will always be a "what might have been" to me, about it though. Discovery was capable of a lot more, if it had just had a little better writing and stayed on once course instead of going through so many changes behind the scenes. Recent sci fi shows like For All Mankind, The Expanse, and Foundation really are just written much better, and paced well. Some of them even use location shooting. I am still hoping, given this last season they finally can get the season they deserved.

a couple of years ago I might have thought the same, nowadays I’m not so sure: the show is not even over yet and it seems already on the way to be forgotten.

I think it’s going to end up like TAS: a footnote in Star Trek lore, especially if none of the new series (like Starfleet academy) are set in the 32nd century.

All these shows will blur together. All of them. It's just a matter of degree. Disco has the advantage of being the first of the Third Wave. And it will feel the least like the others. That will make it stand out a little bit more, in one way or another. Picard will be seen as "more TNG". Strange New Worlds will still be remembered.

Discovery was made by a series of mad chefs. often in awhile they got it right, sometimes not but it was always interesting that they tried.

Pic Season 3 is the answer to a room full of spoiled brats demanding applesauce. It's pretty good applesauce, though.

I think none of us can predict how these shows will be perceived in the future, any more than I could've predicted cell phones 20 years ago.

Oddly I did have a cellphone in 1996 which was 27 years ago.
I had a Phillips Fizz and a Nokia 1610 that took a full size sim card, the ones that were credit card size

me too. And I knew we were headed towards handheld computing by 2004.

Same....... But the Fizz was one of the worst phones of the time. Mine kept resetting itself at random intervals and was never that reliable. Around 1998 I got a second hand Apple Newton and that was a really neat gadget.

yes, the Newton was a real precursor of times to come.
