Things I never noticed before.

I can't tell you how many times I'd seen "Doomsday Machine", between the syndication runs and owning the DVDs. But the last time I watched it I realized that William Windom was doing an homage to Humphrey Bogart in "The Caine Mutiny" by fiddling with the floppy-disk looking things on the bridge.

Therin of Andor;6023251 But how many are Starfleet?[/QUOTE said:
We seem to be moving the goalposts a bit--from identifying doors with handles in TOS to only doors with handles in 23rd Century architecture, to only Starfleet doors with handles in 23rd Century architecture.

In addition to the doors at George Kirk's lab on Deneva and Dr. Tom Leighton's door at his home on Planet Q, (both of which are generatic Federation homes and not Starfleet per se), it looks like the two hinged Starfleet doors with handles that we see in TOS are the door to Pike's hospital room in "The Menagerie, Part 1" and the door to the court room in "Court Martial."

Not door related, but I only recently noticed that the stuff they were feeding Val in "The Apple" was the same explosive mineral that the unfortunate Redshirt had stepped on earlier in the episode.

It took me many years to notice that, in Journey to Babel, when Spock's blood is being tranfused into Sarek, there's a little bottle in the line that's removing the human blood elements. I know they SAID they could do it, but I'd only recently noticed the actual human blood being removed.

Still all "forbidden" links here, Corporal. Trekcore probably doesn't want direct links to the JPGs.

Yeah, that sucks. I tested them again last night, and it went both ways, sometimes forbidden, sometimes not. You can see them if you paste the links into a new browser window, though, right?

D.C. Fontana had some clarification about this in her script for "Journey to Babel:"

Scene 73 INT. EXAMINATION ROOM - CLOSE - SPOCK

He lies on an examination table, bare chested. With his look, CAMERA PANS to the device on his arm. From this device CAMERA FOLLOWS transparent tube carrying his green blood to a wall computer.

CAMERA PANS to a second computer, follows the tube from it to the Jefferies Separator. HOLD on the green Spock blood entering the separator, and orange portion dropping down to a bottled labeled 'Waste Factor', CAMERA NOW FOLLOWS another tube which carries blood of a brighter green hue to a device on Sarek's arm. Sarek is anesthetized.

When ultimately realized, the shot looked like this:

In looking at the Jefferies Separator unit, you can see the ochre-green blood from Spock, the orange "waste factors" in the little collection bottle, and the emerald green blood going into Sarek.

So, Spock's blood is green (with a little bit of orange in it), but a pure Vulcan's blood is even greener.

Pop Rocks! Kirk could have destroyed Vaal just by pouring a barrel of Coca-Cola down its maw!

You know. Those kind of things show some real attention to detail. Something that can make the good shows great.

Not the shortened links in the post. I'd have to quote the post and grab the full URLs from the quote box. I'll just take your word for it. :)

Oh, I see the problem.

With my browser, I can right-click on the link in the form it's in, copy it, and then paste it into the address bar. Sorry 'bout that, but I figured at least the way I did it, the links were available. There's just no perfect way to deal with the problem.

Trekcore picks up the referrer and forbids anything not coming from trekcore.

If you happen to have success with a direct link from another site, it is because your browser is using a cached copy or there is other voodoo at work.

Just copy the URL and apste it in your address window and add a question mark to the far right and hit the "enter" key. The image should display.

Sincerely,

Bill

In the 24th century, Wesley's room at Starfleet Academy had a pull open handle door, IIRC.

The only door handle in all of TOS was on Injured Pike's quarters on a starbase. They didn't want that man escaping! So cruel.

The Wesley door was not TOS of course, so I don't understand your apparent refutation of my statement.

I wasn't refuting anything. I was adding to the "Things people might not have noticed before" thread. Your post about TNG simply reminded me of the similar TOS factoid.

Of course, I should have said, "The only Starfleet door handle in all of TOS..."

Why do you need a question mark at the right? I don't need one.
Like Tyberius says, the difference probably lies in your links already being in your own computer's cache. Purge everything after browsing, and you, too, will lose the ability to see the images by either clicking on the link or by copying it as is on a new tab or window.

Sometimes it's useful to have the pictures show up on the forum, in which case one can use services like Flickr or ImageShack to store them (even if it's a lot of silly effort, and still consumes somebody else's web resources). Most of the time, though, simple links will probably be better: I for one like opening the relevant pictures (and only the relevant pictures) in separate windows where I can zoom and otherwise adjust them separately, and it's also nice to avoid stretching the forum pages with large pics.

No. I just tested it yet again, but this time from a computer that had never accessed TrekCore before. It works as I described, by pasting the link as is; no extra question mark needed. But there are theoretically all sorts of reasons why it might behave differently for me than for some other user. As Tyberius said, there could be other "voodoo" at work. That voodoo could potentially include ISP proxy servers or web server reverse proxies, all too off-topic to delve into here.

Yeah, I did that for the most interesting picture, the one in Requiem for Methuselah that I thought was the most surprising. It's a waste of time to set up, especially if I would only be duplicating the images, fair use or not, as well as a silly consumption of resources, to do it for all of them.

And if we are going to be technical, which we are being, you appear to be right. The situation in Court Martial is only a hinged door, and no door handle or knob is ever shown, certainly not on the side of the door we actually see, even though the door is definitely on hinges (real world explanation could be to shave production time or budget).

So, I probably should revise the count I gave upthread from 17 episodes down to 16.

Moving on - I watched The Enemy Within last weekend, and I noticed that the script treated the "good Kirk" as the REAL Kirk. The evil half of him was "The intruder." With my adult eyes, I think that they are both equal halves of Kirk, and neither should be lesser than the other. But basic human prejudice shows thru in the writing and carries thru in the direction and performances.

Someone posted in an another thread that TOS had a Twilight Zone vibe to it.

I've been watching TOS again and I have to say that I never noticed that before, but it certainly does.
