Theory for TOS Enterprise and Disco Enterprise differences

speaking of which, I see hardly any DSC merchandise. I had hoped for a couple of Klingon costumes based on the show, since we need new ones for our wedding ceremony next year, but so far...nada
Only Klingon stuff I've seen so far are t-shirts.

A few places are offering Section-31 badges now.

Section 31 badges kind of defeat the point of an agency that prides itself on secrecy and that no one knows about.
Depends on what their story is for functioning out in the open. Since Section 31 might be regarded as the intelligence arm of Starfleet, it allows them to walk out in the open.

I've had the same problem with SHIELD in the MCU almost since the beginning. They are supposed to be a top-secret organization, and yet they put their logo on clothing, vehicles and even water bottles. They had a huge skyscraper headquarters in Washington DC. Some secret agency. One of the things that I love about the Captain Marvel trailers is Carol calling Nick Fury out on this exact thing.

Yeah, only Eaglemoss and Fansets have really pumped out a lot of Discovery merchandise. But to be fair, they did get stuff out pretty quick. But other than that, there's just been a lot of t-shirts and other apparel. Hopefully the MacFarlane Toys figures come out soon.

Thank you! This has always bothered me, but more so on the HYDRA side. I forget which episode of Agents of SHIELD it was but I remember Simmons working for them and they seriously branded EVERYTHING. It's one thing for a top secret agency to be branding everything (which is ridiculous, but less so) and it's another thing when its a super-secret criminal organization. The lab, the ID badges, the folders, even the goddamn LETTERHEAD was HYDRA branded.

In the 24th century yes, we don't know about the 23rd.

Why would that be any different? Once a thug, always a thug.

Section 31 was clearly evil by the time DS9 rolled around, so I see every reason to think it was always that way. Organizations like this generally don't change.

Secrecy is corruption, after all. If Starfleet Intelligence can't get something done, it doesn't deserve to get done.

Yes, but they could have a legitimate face to hide behind.

You know, like a mob front.

I'm not saying they're not thugs, I'm saying no-one knows they are.

Something happens between the 23rd and 24th to drive them underground.

True, but Section 31 is not one of these agencies. They are not a legitimate intelligence organization by any stretch of the imagination. They are a gang of thugs, nothing more.
The categorical denial of them seems to be at odds with their onscreen presentation.

I have a feeling Section 31 will be formally outlawed and by the 24th century no one will have heard of them. Sort of like how in Star Wars Episode 3, the Emperor outlawed the Jedi and by Episode 4 many had not heard of them.

Or that the knowledge of the bureau is suppressed so that future generations are unaware of it. All the people with direct knowledge are under orders to keep knowledge of the organization a classified secret, while some sort of computer worm or virus delete any mention of the organization from any official record. After that, it only exists in stories and vague whispers.
