Now that's just crazy talk. If we don't diss Discovery now what are we going to use to direct our anger over our life's misfortunes at? I know there's always Abrams, but to be honest he's just too easy a target these days.

I hope they turn away from the Klingons as well and give us some little used (or even new) hostiles. I'd love to see more of the Tholians, maybe throw in the Kzinti or Tzenkethi, problems with Orion marauders or pesky pirates.

    Definitely NO BORG!!!!!

Since it's called Discovery, I actually hope they go and discover things instead of playing orange and green laser tag each week.

Well...:shifty:...don't tell anybody, but I hear there's a new one of those accursed 'Star Wars' movies coming out.

No it doesn't. They can still do those stories just as well as any other series did. If you think that it won't work because we know that the Federation survives, well frankly that's nonsense. None of the other shows, absolutely none of them ever seriously considered completely destroying the Federation. We knew that they weren't going to do that. We knew that the good guys were going to win. We even knew that most if not all of them would survive to the series end. It didn't take the power away from the plots then and it shouldn't now.

    It hasn't been released yet.

Plus there'll only be thirteen episodes a year... bummer!

Yeah, I am not sure how you drew the line between my post and yours, but I don't care about the 13 episodes. That's plenty for me.

The worst thing about Discovery is the assumptions people are making about it and the impossible fan expectations for a show that we've only seen a one-minute rough cut trailer for and won't premiere for another five months.

Well, for one thing I am very good at drawing lines. Another thing is that I said "plus" and that word usually implies that I agree with what you said and I also have something of my own to add to it. That doesn't necessarily mean that you'll agree with what I said. as a matter of fact, I couldn't care less if you do. Now if you don't like people drawing lines between their posts and yours, tough crap. This is a public forum, if you want to have private conversations, send PMs.

Hey, we're Trek fans. Some folks were declaring it a "failure" when the logo was released.

The worst thing about Discovery is having to answer the question: "What's the worst thing about Discovery."

I'm just kind of done with all these people who basically want all new Trek to fail because it doesn't match their cookie cutter expectations. If new Trek is so horrible to follow, there are tons of other franchises these folks can spend their time on.

I find it interesting that some, emphasis on some, of the folks who are in the "negative" camp are also extremely interested in fan fiction. With the advent of direct interaction between creative types and franchise fans, it seems that some fans have take the role of "armchair director/producer/creator" and are not satisfied with anything that doesn't match what THEY would do, were they to have the chance to take the helm.

Guys and Gals, we're drifting off course here...

The point of this thread was to find a way for Star Trek Discovery to fulfil my need to bask in the glory that are Romulus and Cardassia.

By perusing the forum I have found a possible and exciting solution:

    Klingon Empire meets North Korea!

This would allow for a more sophisticated and intelectual Klingon opponent.

One with his hair tied behind his back and the appearance of proper gentleklingon. One with the confidence and demeanour of a person that knows that his way of life is the superior one, without the need for empty and childish bravado.

A calm and collected persona, but with a inner fire manifested by his yearning for the glory that is expanding the Empire!

There could still be some of the barbaric types roaming around. In fact, that would be perfect for inner species conflict.

In any case, what is being proposed here isn't exactly new. Old School Klingons like Kor and Chang were exactly like this.

    Just bring that interpretation back!
