I kinda think it was a mistake to make this a sequel to Midnight because there will be unfair comparisons. And I will be one of those people making them...
Midnight is a really strong RTD episode.
The nature of the threat is different in The Well, so already the most interesting and deadly aspect that made Midnight so great is gone...
The writing of RTD, his characters, just aren't on par with his early work on DW. So in general I'm just less invested and the prancing back and forth to the changing room in the Tardis doesn't endear me to this new Doctor and companion. Midnight started off as a somewhat humorous holiday for the Doctor and Donna but ended with a toll taken on the Doctor. As a viewer I was left with a feeling that he'd gone through a genuine change (which is not easy to pull off for an episodic series). I don't feel that toll here, just a happy go lucky Doctor and companion prancing off to the changing room again.
