Spoilers The Way of the Warrior. Was it really a good idea for Sisko to get Worf?

Worf is a Klingon and was the logical choice to handle the Klingon problem. He also had a friendship it would seem with Gowrn, the chancellor that he could go to talk to cool things down. Sisko choosing him was a good choice out of all the characters on TNG to come to DS9.

Friendship with Gowron, my butt. Have you seen the Worf and Gowron episodes in Next Generation?

Worf kept pisssing off Klingons especially with the whole Council and trying to bring back honor to House of Mogh. the last episode with that fake son that was involvved with those Klingon sisters. Worf even though he put Gowron on the Council, he still at the end, pissed of Gowron and left Kurn there with everyone else at the Council and look what happend wiht Kurn which he revealed during Season 4 of Deep Space Nine.

Worf was and probably is still a stubborn Klingon that acts more human anyway. He couldnt stand Alexander. he couldnt stand being around his human Earth Russian parents either.

If you're going to trash the idea for Sisko to bring in Worf...which seems to have gone rather well both for the Federation and the Klingon empire ultimately (though I wouldn't expect any thanks)...what would you have done instead?

I still don't think it made sense for the Klingons to fall out with the Federation that easily. After the events of Redemption cemented their alliance under the common Romulan enemy it should have taken more than that.

Especially with the magnitude of the Dominion threat on the horizon. But Klingons don't always make rational decisions.

Well, we have no idea how much Faux Martok may have been doing to undermine the alliance prior to WotW.

Well, those events showed that half the Empire was ready to join ranks with outsiders, while the other half was ready to... join ranks with outsiders. One side lost; the leadership of the other probably considered this a learning opportunity, and began working to undermine any further dependence on foreign allies.

Gowron did wisely to seek war, of manageable size, and in a fashion that would put to disgrace those who sought alliances or clung to the old political positions. Fighting the Cardassians helped unify the Empire; not winning was also ideal, freeing the Klingons of the problem of dealing with a conquered Cardassia and having to explain the lack of evidence for the purported casus belli.

"Martok" would have had it easy, speaking such words of wisdom to Gowron's ear. Making the Empire fight the UFP and again not win was also something Gowron himself would consider a good thing, even if it also coincided with Dominion aims and goals and made "Martok" rub his fake hands with glee.

But Worf for his part could be whispering in Sisko's ear, telling him how the Klingons were no strangers to alliances that came and went, and how there would be little longterm harm from Gowron briefly going adversarial. He managed to sweet-talk Gowron into participating in retaking DS9 easily enough!
