The War Doctor

Emissary of the Prophets

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Forbidden Planet ae advertising t-shirts for the 12 Doctor and incorporating the new costume design. Fair enough. We have known who the War Doctor is now for nearly 6 months and there is very little merchandise featuring all the Doctors that includes him. The Doctor may have been keen to forget him, but I am not. More War Doctor, I say.

I saw one online, which seems to have a removable head and a spare head for the McGann Doctor which you can put on instead (no, I'm not making this up!). Must've been inspired by the Third Doctor/Wurzel Gummidge connection.

^ Only problem with swapping McGann's head onto that figure is that Eight never wore WarDoc's outfit! Give us a proper Eight figure from NotD, I say!

Also, if you can find the action figure thread, there are pictures to be seen of it.

Oh, I'm sure he did. For all of twenty minutes or so.

He is more or less the same size as the original sized 11 Eleven Doctors. The detail is pretty good too. I would love to have a battle scarred 8th Doctor too.

Note they describe him as The Other Doctor

The reason, according to sources I've spoken to at Underground Toys, is because BBC Worldwide believes the name "War Doctor" isn't appropriate for an all-ages product like Doctor Who. "Other Doctor" is seen as more family-friendly.

Thats just... nonsensical.
Actually, considering he was accepted as deserving the Mantle (But refusing to take it) of The Doctor, I can see the Conservative fear causing this (And it may actually be the best choice, from a Sales and Marketing point of view).

I think, if he hadn't been accepted/Redeemed, and was left more "Valleyard-like" they might've been willing to use The War Doctor title for him.

Even though War Doctor is actually who John Hurt is credited as playing in Night of the Doctor?

Doesn't matter when it comes to toys that have been marketed with children also in mind.

Something similar was done for toys based on the movie Kick-Ass 2 in the States. Those sold in Toys R Us stores were rebranded a more family-friendly "KA 2."

Oops, for some reason I read Eccleston instead of McGann. D'oh! I must be an idiot.

So yeah, that does seem peculiar.

Though I bet most of those will be bought by adult collectors!

Personally, I think The Lost Doctor or the Forgotten Doctor would have been cooler names.

One wonders what he called himself during the Time War? He was around for a long time and the Daleks and Time Lords called him Doctor but he himself said he did not deserve that name, so I wonder how he introduced himself to others?
"Hello, I am the Doctor but not really."

Captain Grumpy, of course.

But I think he might have just called himself John Smith during that time, IMO.

Given he likely spent his entire life in the War Doctor incarnation either on Gallifrey or on the Time War's front lines, wouldn't using an Earth name just cause him to stand out even more.

And the problem I have with referring to him as the Other Doctor is that it easily confuses him with the Other.
