In news articles it was said that Darryl was supposed to be the lead character when Rick left.... him being a loner and introvert, his prence doesn't seem domineering like Rick, but this episode definitely highlights his importance to this show. The Walking Dead
Season 10 - Episode 17 - "Home Sweet Home"
Daryl: Despite his efforts of trying to keep everyone else stable, he seems like he has reached the point of finally wanting something for himself. He did tease hitting the road in episode 16, so his behavior might be more groundwork laid for his departure.
I think she has learned to not try to hide stuff, especially with this. Painful as it was, it was the right thing to do. She knows Carol would do whatever she had to,in order to protect the group. So she needs to need to process it somehow. Talking with Darryl was a great way to bridge that potential divide with Carol.Carol: Well, she took the hit with Maggie about her involvement with Negan's release / the death of Alpha. I just hope this does not lead to Carol spiraling in guilt again. Speaking of the Whisperers...
.
Honestly i am not sure that matters. I mean, Alpha had JUST gotten a Gamma, and there wasn't a Delta waiting in the wings. I imagine most of the survivors were very low level people. Either they mght be overjoyed in being released from the cult, decided to die like Beta (or too weak to srvive on their own), or might be smart enough to ditch their whisperer stuff and sneak in as refugees (like past Whisperers), but with the intention of being part of a "normal" communityThe Whisperers: No one ever said all of the Whisperers were killed in the previous episode's battle. In fact, a few were still running around in the nighttime fight (as the heroes were using music to lure the walkers away), so where did they end up?
.
Maggie: What emotions would Negan expect from her? He may have been used to his lackeys just rolling over / accepting his random acts of murder, but to kill a woman's husband in front of her is not something the passage of time--or his aid in killing Alpha--is going to heal.
Of note, Georgie headed "out west", which all but screams a possible connection to Fear the Walking Dead, despite the show not being on a concurrent timeline with TWD.
Interesting that Georgie's group--as organized as she claimed they were--fell apart, unless she had ties even Maggie did not know about.
.
Did they say it was the original cap? If so, where? I still think it was one Maggie found, that was similar, to remind her of Glenn. And the actor who portrays Herschel was perfect in the role -- definitely felt like we had Glenn back (in a sense). Curious if his character knew Judith, and if so, would they be able to have a reunion. I didn't pay too much attention about Judith, but Herschel for sure was "socially distanced" from everybody else. Being in a tree was a great way to do it. But might make for some limited interaction with them and any adult.Much was made of Hershel's cap--supposedly it was the one Glenn wore over the course of seasons 1 and two, but someone needs to explain how its still around, since Glenn lost / left his behind after the fall of the Greene farm. Sure, he could have found another for nostalgia's sake, but that never played out on screen.
.
Negan:
I doubt anyone knows where his arc will lead, but it would be wise to avoid the expected conflict with Maggie, as it can only end up in one place, and from what we've seen, Maggie is a far wiser woman than she used to be.
NOTES:
The Reapers...well, the heroes cannot get a good breath in before another enemy group rears its head. They--whatever their numbers--have no regard for life at all, not even their own--so they might be considered a more nihilistic (and better armed) version of The Whisperers, sans the "we are dead, too" philosophy.
GRADE: A.
This might also be a link with FEAR—- death is just the beginning, and all. That seems a death cult.

Did Maggie and Darryl ever have any significant interaction on the show before? Even if not, Darryl was the perfect person for Maggie to talk about regarding Carol, and bridging any divide between them
And will that mean Connie, after all that effort to survive, will die after all? (Kinda like a Glenn situation).
And Ezekiel?
The news that Maggie brought... not sure how that would work for Ride with Darryl and Carol?

To me, it felt like they were going somewhere with Georgie, then dropped it. Like was she a founder of the COmmonwealth, perhaps? (or they were thinking that when she was introduced?)
And kinda sad that all other communities have fallen apart. Is there a map to show which areas were attempted (in addition to the mentioned Knoxville)?

Surprised you didn't mention Elijah at all?
Also, i saw a bit of Talking Dead , and Angel Theory appreciated this episode helping add some characterization between the sisters... and the way she interacted with Maggie, felt very natural.
Doubtful. The main motivation behind doing these bonus episodes was basically to give production a dry-run to see what will and won't work with filming a show during the pandemic, so they'd know how to handle filming season 11 as well as the coming seasons of Fear and World Beyond. And while that does not mean these six episodes are in any way disposable, it does mean this is not the most appropriate time to be syncing story arcs up between the two shows. This might also be a link with FEAR—- death is just the beginning, and all. Numbers are in. 2.89 million watched the premiere of the half season - which is more than the 2.73 who watched the standalone finale. Still the second lowest of the show's history though.
Do the ratings really matter anymore? We know the show is ending next year regardless.
Yeah, I always talk about ratings but never watch live. Everything is on the DVR, which does count for ratings for some reason, even though we skip commercials.I honestly can't remember how long it's been since I've actually watched TWD on TV. I either watch them on the AMC website, or if I fall to far behind, on Netflix.
Yes, DVR numbers are included with ratings, but On Demand and AMC+ aren't. Indeed, given this episode was available on AMC+ a whole week before it aired on AMC, broadcast night ratings really don't mean a whole lot.How many are subscribers of AMC+? I would suspect the vast majority of those have subscribed with TWD as a major reason. Also, does it take into account DVR/On Demand viewings?
I thnk it matters in how it affects the rets of the franchise. If the most popular of all the shows is doing bad, it might not bode well for current and future projects (even the Rick movies that are supposedly happening)
