MELANIE: Anything.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: While you're studying my stories, poke your head up every once in a while. Take a look around. See what's going on. It's life, Melanie.

 

[LeadHead]

Melanie: ...And you can miss it if you don't open your eyes.

Jake Sits down.

Melanie: Thank you, for everything.

Melanie kisses Jake on the cheek.

 

[Leandar]

Melanie: Thank you. For everything.

Jake: It was a pleasure meeting you, young lady.

 

[LeadHead]

Jake sits down at his desk, holds the new manuscript in one hand and a baseball in another.

Later, Sisko has reappeared.

Sisko: (waking Jake up) Jake.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: I've been expecting you.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: I'm glad to see you still in this house. You seemed happy here. (Sees the manuscript) And this, I can't tell you how good it makes me feel that you got back to writing. (Jake has trouble breathing) Jake, what is it?

 

[Leandar]

Jake: Read the dedication.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: To my father, who's coming home. Thank you, but I don't understand.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: It was me. It was me all along. I've been dragging you through time like an anchor and now it's time to cut you loose.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: Jake, what are you saying?

Jake looks over at desk, Sisko finds Hypospray.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: It won't be long now.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: Jake, NO!

 

[Leandar]

Jake: When I die, you'll go back to where this all began. Just remember to dodge the energy discharge from the warp core.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: Jake, you could still have so many years left.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: No. We have to be together when I die.

 

[LeadHead]

Sisko: Jake, you didn't have to do this. Not for me.

 

[Leandar]

Jake: For you and for the boy that I was. He needs you more than you know. Don't you see? We're going to get a second chance.

 

[LeadHead]

Jake dies.

Sisko: Jake. My sweet boy.

Sisko hugs Jake.

Suddenly, Sisko appears back in the Defiants Engine Room. Sisko tackles Jake to the ground, the energy discharges miss both of them.

Sisko: You okay?

 

[Leandar]

Jake: How'd you know that was coming?
