The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Double post, but a new live-action tv series of The Phantom is in planning.

I know that white saviours in Africa are very passé now but I have a soft spot for the comic, as I remember reading the syndicated strip in Sunday newspapers as a kid. And I think the Billy Zane movie is a very underrated swashbuckler. So I will check this out.

I think this ignores a couple of things. Malcom and Scrubs reboots were made by the people who made the old shows and also has most of or even all of the cast from those shows returning.

Buffy was being made with new people and new series regulars and even though Gellar was who most of the focus was placed on in selling the show she was not going to even be the main star or even in all the episodes. You also had no other characters from the old show returning.
 
Yeah, I'd have to think that reboots that involve the original creators have more of a chance at success. One of my all-time fav reboots is Degrassi: The Next Generation. Degrassi Jr High and Degrassi High were both landmark Canadian series from the 80's and 90's. When it came time to reboot the series in the 2000's for a new generation of teens, they didn't simply reboot it; The new series served as a continuation, brought back some of the characters from the original series to serve as parents to the new kids, including a former student turned principal. The result was something that could be enjoyed both by old fans and new that expanded on the history of the original series. It was also a series that kickstarted Drake's career.

Problem is that isn't guaranteed and even if they come back it wouldn't be as regulars. Granted I think the big issue is no Joss Whedon. He just can't be replaced. Even if he could you would think they would try by hiring writers to create the show who worked on it,

I think I am 1 week late to say this, but I have to say that I think the Elle TV series will succeed. Because on Prime Video, youth shows and movies, especially TV series and movies adapted from YA works, if successful; if it is a show they make 3 seasons, if it is a movie they make it a trilogy and finish it. In fact, in some youth shows of this type that Prime Video makes for both Hollywood and foreign markets, it happens a lot that the 2nd season is approved before the first season is even released, and filming starts 1 month after the first season is released. Of course, there are also many works where they quietly approved the 2nd season before the first season was released, it leaked from Deadline etc., and when the first season did not succeed, the 2nd season approval was taken back. But they announced this season approval with videos like they did for productions such as The Boys, etc. That means they trust it. And I think this show will succeed too. But probably they will finish it in the 3rd and 4th or 5th season, I think.

Amazon I think also simply understands young people tastes better than Disney does. The only show I can think of them totally dropping the ball on is Rings of Power. Trying to to match both J.R.R Tolkien and Peter Jackson was a unwinnable task. Even Peter Jackson couldn't compete against younger Peter Jackson when he did the Hobbit movies.
 
New rumor, Them! remake with interest in Glen Powell as the lead and Michael Giacchino making his directoral debut.

Way to early to be anything solid. Remake might not even happen. Or happen in ten years with Michael Bay and Liam Hemsworth.

According to the author of the book series, Meg Cabot, Chris Pine is preparing to take part in 'PRINCESS DIARIES 3' together with Anne Hathaway.

I can certainly think of worse choices. They even got the age pretty close, with Harbour being about five years younger than Crenna was in the original.

Edit: Also, kind of funny that they're only announcing it now. According to Noah Centineo (the actor playing Rambo), they finished filming in March.

Will they let Rambo have the handlebar mustache we saw in the flashbacks? I friggin' doubt it. :D

The Legally Blonde 3 project has been on the agenda since 2018. First they said 2020, then they said 2023, and then they said it was postponed. Last, one of the film's writers, Mindy Kaling, mentioned in an interview that she had delivered the draft script for the 3rd film. Since that time, there has been no sound or news. Even though I love Reese Witherspoon, she has overly fake statements.
