The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Well, I would have said "Has Ubisoft learnt NOTHING from Captain Laserhawk and the Uwe Boll movie?", but since they're gonna do a Fargo-style anthology of different stories each season, and since Fargo's Noah Hawley is involved, I think they might have learnt something.

EDIT: The best FC adaptation is still The Far Cry Experience, a miniseries starring Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Michael Mando made to lead in to Far Cry 3, tho.

Don't forget the Assassin's Creed movie. Or maybe you do want to forget. Nevermind, Carry on :D

The Diane Keaton comedy Baby Boom is to get a “reimagining” from Amazon studios.

I was just thinking, any day now, they're going to announce a remake of a Diane Keaton movie.

If only Frank L. Baum had written more Oz books that have yet to be filmed…
Ironically, one of the most beloved depictions of the Oz universe, Return to Oz, was an adaptation of Marvellous Land and Ozma of Oz, and its large cult following proves that there is profits to be made from adapting the rest of Baum's stories.

EDIT: But nope. We must make sequels to what was intended as a standalone two-part film adaptation of another beloved depiction, because the zeitgeist must flow.

I watched Wicked at home with my daughter over the weekend. It’s gorgeous looking, the performances are great and the singers are superb. But, it’s a full hour longer than TWOO and this is only part one! The songs are fine but I found them pretty forgettable interchangeable with any modern music, Disney movie or whatever. I can’t see them being stuck in my or anyone else’s head the way “follow the yellow brick road”‘or “off to see the wizard” are. Anyway, old man rant over.

Ironically, Wicked predated those modern musicals.

Say it with me:

NOT. EVERYTHING. NEEDS TO BE A FRANCHISE.

Yeah, but when it's Hollywood and you are trying to tell them that, it's like the comedy piece played on the Dr. Demento Show for years where the guy is trying to order a large cheese burger, a thing of fried, and large orange drink and he can't understand what the guy on the voice box is saying, asking him to say it with him and it still comes out: AAAHHH WAAAGG OWWWANG DREEEENK.

That's Hollywood -- you are telling them to say it with you, but it's coming out ... different.

To be fair, I think at least "Defying Gravity" has caught in, as even a person such as I who hasn't seen the movie knows the song.

This is the only 'Defying Gravity' song I know.
