The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Starz orders Spartacus: House of Ashur, a spinoff starring Nick Tarabay from the original series.

“All will be explained” according to writer Steven DeKnight, replying to excited-but-confused fans on twitter.

Wow, it seems late to try to capitalize on that.

Agreed. A decade after it ended, longer since the new main character was
stabbed and decapitated
when the strongest part of the entire series was an actor whose character died in the first season so they made the second season a prequel as an excuse to bring him back (and to have time to recast the main character after the actor passed away).

Like, a prequel again? With the actor CGI de aged? Or a mystery son who looks exactly like his dad 40 years later during the fall of the Roman Republic? Or magic? Or
somehow he survived decapitation?

I dunno, the whole thing seems like a stretch. I remember chatter about a spin off back when it ended centered around Caeser but even that petered out so long ago....

Ina semi-related note, didn't DeKnight recently give Disney shit for naming new seasons of shows different names as it affected residuals when Spartacus was one of the series' to popularize it?

I mean, it really wasn't reasonable to believe the Terminator IP would lie dormant for long, even with all the box office failures. So, going with a streaming series, especially an animated one, might be the best way to move forward with the franchise, as it forces them to do something different instead of constantly trying to build a reboot around old man Arnold. Let's not forget that the best non-Cameron installment of the Terminator franchise is arguably The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a TV show with no access to Arnold, and therefore forced to do something different.
