Just curious... what would be "good" to you? What do you want out of Doctor Who?

Thought provoking and epic Science Fiction....the causality defying use of time travel for example. Surprising and intricate plots or arcs are also high on my list. In this last one, I had had "They toss it out an airlock" after they described the Pting "ghost monument is the TARDIS" right after they described it. Some comedy wouldn't hurt either.

I live in a daily storm of predictable, entitled, political, lazy, boring, and dishonest douchebaggery. A little sci-fi escape is welcome relief....

That's like NOT most of Doctor Who. Most of Doctor Who has been run away from the monster! Except for the "Look at me, I'm riding a dinosaur!" or the "Ooo, you plot device, I can't figure you out! Sure, I travel in space and time, but, that couldn't be it, you impossible plot device you!"

I think its slightly unreasonable to expect anything as good as the first, fourth, or fifth series, all of which are the consistent candidates for best NuWho series. I like this series and appreciate greatly the different tone and look, but at the same time, I kinda am appreciating series 10 more as a result. Does that make sense?
The plots could use some work, but the character interplay is actually great and a highlight to the season. I'd gladly sit through recycled formulaic stuff just to hang out with this TARDIS team.

But yeah, I agree with the general premise of your reply, that not every episode is going to be top tier. And I am willing to give this new series a fair shot. After all, we are only a few eps in.
Five episodes in. There are only 10 this season, so they're halfway through. At what point can we stop cutting Chibnall slack? 7th episode? 9th? 10th? The season after? That's how I lost interest and stopped watching during Capaldi's run.

I found myself half bored and half fully engaged in this episode. I really liked all the stuff with the pregant guy and how it impacted Graham and Ryan. I think those two might make for a interesting spin-off down the line. All the stuff with the ship and the cute monster though felt very rehased and very simplistic and I found myself loosing the plot because I didn't care about the plot. Like last week and maybe before I keep waiting for that extra twist or something really imagitive to happen but it never really happens.

I think I am also starting to cool on the doctor just a wee bit. I think she has the sense of wonder down pat but I am missing the more alien and even condescending stuff but I know some people didn't like that but I always did. She seems almost to nice and polite at times. Yaz seems like a pointless character. Not sure why she is even on the show. Maybe would work better as a Mickey who would pop up anytime you return to earth. Also I think they have failed to connect the Doctor to the Companions on a more intimate level. What is it the bonds them all together is a question I ask myself and i'm not sure.

In 2005 Rose was basically our entry point into the show for people like me who were new to the show. Then you had a romance-ish thing with Tennant. Martha was in love with the Doctor.Donna was like a best friend who is as quirky as you. Amy Pound was the first person Matt Smith met and she and Rory were like family. Even brothers and sisters even though you had a little romance-ish stuff as well at first with Amy. Clara was a mystery box and then a close friend. Billy was a student. I'm not sure why she cares about these new people other than the show needs someone for her to talk to. It's something they need to work on. Creating more of a bond between Doctor and the Companions and finding out what she is getting out of the current batch.

It’s ok to not like something and stop watching. Just like it’s ok for others to like something and continue watching.

That's true but not really how people do things. Some shows people will stick with because they want it to be good because they are very invested in the premise, franchise or actors. Then you have that extra thing were you have spent so much time with a show that it's hard to just ditich it because you want some sense of closure from it. Long suffering "Walking Dead" fans proably know that feeling if they aren't happy with the latest seasons. It's one of the reasons also why people will most often watch a bad movie they start. Once your 30 minutes or so into the movie it's hard to just turn it off and left wondering what happened even if you didn't care about what was happening. Not to mention enduring hope that something bad you don't like will somehow get better and you just got to keep giving it chance after chance. If for no other reason than to not be the fool who drops a show and then you start hearing about how great said show has become.

Speaking of the episode but has the all white sterile spaceship or set look been done to much now? I feel these kind of sets have moved into bad cliche at this point. It's been awhile now since Leia's ship that kind of had that look was stopped while she was on a Diplomatic mission to Alderan

I'm getting the impression you did not like Clara very much.

However I have changed my mind over the 13 (!!!!) years of nuwho - Matt Smith is the best Doctor, not Eccleston, and the ponds are the best companions (all 3), not Jack.

My opinions also changed. Rose use to be my favorite character, period Tennant was my favorite Doctor. Now Matt Smith and the Ponds kind of hold that place for me. I think I also prefer Missy over the Simms version of The Master.

Try reading the earlier post I was responding to rather than just pushing your agenda. Romulan_spy was not enthusiastic about the show but says he's willing to give it a shot because we're only a few episodes in. Why don't you tell HIM to stop watching? Yeah, I thought so. Face it, Chibnall has shortchanged the viewership by promising fewer but better scripts. He delivered the fewer, but not the better. We're not even getting a Christmas special. 10 instead of 13 episodes this year.

In point of fact, I did stop watching not long into the Capaldi era. Now, I was willing to give it a chance with Whoever was replacing him. I get that you just want this forum to be a love fest where everybody does nothing but declares that they love the show, but no show is served well by legions of blind fans. You'll never grow the fan base if you refuse to acknowledge any flaws.

My agenda? Lol. It’s just a tv show. Why so serious?

Romulan_spy was not enthusiastic about the show but says he's willing to give it a shot because we're only a few episodes in. Why don't you tell HIM to stop watching?

Because he doesn’t want to? Because he’s still willing to give it a shot? Because he’s not going all “agenda!” on people? Because he’s acting like a normal human being watching a tv show? I think those are all good reasons why I’m not suggesting he stop watching.

Yeah, I thought so.

Thought what?

Face it, Chibnall has shortchanged the viewership by promising fewer but better scripts. He delivered the fewer, but not the better. We're not even getting a Christmas special. 10 instead of 13 episodes this year.

Um. They are shooting a special as we speak. They haven’t announced when it will air. Maybe Christmas, maybe New Years. But, yeah, let’s over react.

And, I disagree. So far, I’m quite enjoying this season. So, I don’t feel short changed in the slightest. You are, of course, free to disagree.

In point of fact, I did stop watching not long into the Capaldi era.

Well. You got me there! I feel the burn! Lol.

Now, I was willing to give it a chance with Whoever was replacing him. I get that you just want this forum to be a love fest where everybody does nothing but declares that they love the show, but no show is served well by legions of blind fans.

I don’t need nor want a love fest. What is exhausting is the silly hyperbole. And the desire to just tear down and scream “It’s the worst!” When, in fact, it’s not.

And because I disagree I’m a blind fan? Lol. Ok. Why should I take your position as the “real thing”? Because it’s filled with vitriol and sharp zingers and words like “agenda” and “point of fact!”

Pass.

You'll never grow the fan base if you refuse to acknowledge any flaws.

I talked about what I didn’t like about the spider episode. Some good, some bad. Ultimately I didn’t like that the Doctor was sort of a passive character in the story.

But if ALL you are talking about is the flaws, then that’s all you are going to see. And one wonders: why would you want that person as a fan?

Edited to add: you mention growing the fan base. It’s doing numbers of over 6 milllion. Better than last series. That sounds like growing. So, I’m confused on your last point.

My least favourite so far. I still enjoyed watching the main cast, but it was bland and the supporting cast were dull.
