The TrekBBS "I remember when..."

Remember when Timby recreated all the smilies on the board using his own face?

I remember these. I think there were originally more of them than just the five you've posted here.

Were they inspired by "Eric Conveys an Emotion" or did that come later?

I remember when William Shatner posted here to promote his website and everyone lost their shit.
Ah, yes, the day Punky came to town was definitely a monumental day in TrekBBS history.
Yeah, he posted one whole time and was never heard from again.

Woohoo

Exactly the point.....We were Shat on.

People wrote long posts praising him and thanking him and generally went apeshit. The Shat only posted a couple times, and if i remember correctly only responded directly to one person's post. It was a sad sad sight. I don't mean sad from our end...hell it was William "Fucking" Shatner!!! Of course the place would go nuts... He just wanted to pimp his site and sell us some merch....

I remember that! mrcoaster was my running mate and we took a whopping 7 percent of the vote!

Beats my paltry 3%. You'd think that the BOoBs party, running on a platform of free alcohol for all would do better...

i forgot i got 12 percent
i cant remember if it has been mentioned but i remember posters turning into south park type characters.
and flukies trek bbs version of lost.

one of the things that happened in the lounge was spider managing to banne a good portion of the admirality one night.

;)

as for the thread that tracked number of posts and had different categories jethro and katie did the first ones then elim did them later on.

he got busy with real life among other things and dropped it.

we have had some good april fool days around here.
one eventually had neroon popping out of cake or something like that.

and then there was when trek today just went bat crazy.
you could post in one thread and it would either pop in another or start a new one.
so some posters decided to go and have fun with it.
including the discussion about i think it was called star trek mallory.

One year TPTMB replaced words in new posts with different ones... "canon" became "KABOOM!"

I checked in on that weekend morning as I always did, to the sound of crickets and tumbleweeds. Somehow I was spared the SuperBanne

I remember when someone broke in to JKTim's apartment and stole a bunch of movies, video games, and his frozen pizzas.

Ah, I remember that too!

And they stole his copy of Super Mario Kart, which had records accumulated that he'd sent in to Nintendo Power or something.

You're making the memories come flooding back. :(

I remember when posters could disagree without using personal insults and attacks. It even seemed like they respected one another. I miss those days. :(

Thank you MLK, but that dream just ain't gonna happen. :D

Just trying to keep hope alive. :D

Between the USC Cheerleaders bringing me breakfast in bed and this one, one of them has to come to fruition sooner or later, no?

Sod the BBS, stick with the cheerleader fantasy.

More attainable, anyway. :D

I think he responded to two or three. I was one of them. *grin!* :D I didn't know until some people got me in chat and told me.

It was fun to read the thread. People who hated each other, people who fought on the BBS, trolls, sarcastic "who, me a Trekkie?" types, mods, admins, regular posters - all were united in that thread. It was a Who's Who of TrekBBS and we all wanted Shatner to say "Hi" to us.

Yeah, he was promoting his site. But hey, given the insanity of *some* of us, wouldn't you be wary too? I've been to Trek conventions where some of the fans make me seem downright un-fanlike, and some have embarrassed me or given me the creeps. You know the type. Think "Saturday Night Live" skit.

^ Did that thread get purged or did someone save it? Now we're talking about it, I'd kinda like to re-read it.

And I've always thought Shatner had a good point with that skit. I can see why. ;)

Yeah, I was one of the throng posting in The Shat's thread. How could you not?

As for The Brohi Incident™, who knew my PM to them asking the two to "please dial it back a little" would cause such a firestorm! I remember one poster saying that he was "white-hot with rage" about it. Simply astounding!
**********
I recall post count being taken away from the lounges and Miscellaneous, essentially killing those forums. T'was sad.

I remember everyone talking about "Series V" speculation, and criticized the lame-ass sounding characters named "Jackson Archer", "T'Pau" and "Spike Tucker"

I remember when the first pictures of the Enterprise were posted in TV Guide. Everyone was all of a sudden scrambling to buy a copy

And when they were posted everyone was so pissed at the "Akiraprise"

Wait, what? "White hot with rage"?
Wow.

J.

You'd be surprised at just how seriously some people take TrekBBS. It's a little creepy at times.
