The Star Wars problem

I'd like to rule the galaxy with an iron fist.
I love you, Anakin.
That's rather reductionist. You have to think about their history. She met him as a slave, and that rattled her. She didn't know that still went on. She then says herself in TPM that it's clear to her that the Republic no longer functions.
They talk about the senate not working in AotC, and in RotS she is completely disillusioned. ("Have you ever considered...")

She also knows that what he is doing is to save her. She's not at all ok with it. She wants him to stop and leave with her. But she has MUCH more reason to be sympathetic than people seem to think.

Story-wise, it's brilliant, but it owes a lot to James Earl Jones, too.

Absolutely, his delivery goes beyond memorable. Good luck finding someone who hasn't mimicked that scene at some point in their adult life ☺

As I've stated upthread, I think the romance is well done and is much less bog standard than Han and Leia's flirting.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. It's interesting, though, that in the public consciousness one of those romances is almost universally credited as being one of the most lasting and believable portrayals of genuine chemistry to have been shown on screen whilst the other is virtually synonymous with "wooden".

Guess which is which

I mean, "the public consciousness" thinks TFA is good, so i'd take their opinion with a bucket of salt.

Now that's just being unfair on wood.

I loved Crash....???

Just curious, exactly whose opinion DO you value?
Keeping in mind that "value" here doesn't mean "where I get my taste from" (not that it does for most people), i'd say that I value the opinions of
-Me
-Richard Brody
-George Lucas
-Bill Maher
-Jake Gyllenhaal
-Camille Paglia
-Terrence Malick

All I can say is fair play and I hope you continue getting joy from performances that are wasted on the rest of us.

We've all seen the movies and we've all heard the ridiculously bad lines in the "romantic" dialogs. Nothing reductive about that. It's out there for everybody to see.
