The Star Wars prequel films: favorite bits, lines, aspects!

Yes, these films are generally derided for their flat storytelling, awful dialogue, and dependence on CGI resulting in a lack of innovation that marked the first tri9logy. The first trilogy felt grittier, more emotional, and more real. That said, what are your favorite lines and bits, or even scenes from the films. I liked the bit where Anakin was complaining about the crappy speeder he stole on Coruscant (episode 2). I liked Poggle the Lesser. I liked Dooku's saber. I liked the scope of Episode 3, the various looks into the war on various worlds.

THE PHANTOM MENACE:

I liked Watto, crude ethnic stereotype that he was.

I like Sebulba, the underrated minor villain of the prequels.


ATTACK OF THE CLONES:

I liked the Ray Harryhausen-esque creatures in Attack of the Clones, the Geonosians and the arena monsters.

I liked Jango Fett, the aspect that he wanted a clone "son" to raise as his own.

I think the Kaminoans were neat.

The fight in the rain between Kenobi and Jango Fett.

REVENGE OF THE SITH:

Yoda killing clones.

Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn. He made Lucas' hammy dialogue sing in ways that Ewan McGreggor never managed (not to knock him, as he's a talented actor). It was a real loss to the prequels when his character died at the end of The Phantom Menace.

John Williams' music. As good as or better than his work on the original trilogy, Williams often single-handedly delivered the saga a sense of gravitas that it otherwise lacked.

The lightsaber fight at the end of The Phantom Menace. A brilliant piece of work from everyone involved. Again, Williams gives the scene (with Duel of the Fates) a wonderful sense of import, although it would probably still be great with a lesser cue.

That's about all I've got. I find the prequel trilogy to be mostly unwatchable, but Williams' work on CD is grand.

Episode 1: Young Obi-Wan

Episode 2: Jedi army plus purple lightsaber. Dukoo's lightsaber was nice, duel with Yoda was OK.

Episode 3. Fight with Palpatine. I love how the jedi walk in and Plapatine is just sitting calmy and then they start igniting their lightsabers. Again, purple lightsaber.

Overall: I like the way the Sith finally overthrow the Republic, not through war but political intrigue. Worst part of the prequels? Anakin.

Episode I: Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's "short negotiations" with the Trade Federation at the beginning of the movie. The 3-way end battle against the Trade Federation/Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's duel against Darth Maul. The rest of the movie is fairly boring for me IMHO.

Episode II: The opening Coruscant speeder chase, Obi-Wan's pursuit of Jango Fett including the space dogfight in the asteroid field, and pretty much everything from the Geonosian Droid Factory scenes to the end of the movie. The HUGE "twist" about the Clones fighting FOR the Republic was a genuine surprise for me. Actually seeing Yoda in action was cool too.

Episode III: Pretty much the whole damned movie!

John Williams' score for the PT, particularly "Duel of the Fates" in Episode I, the Arena and Finale/End Credits score in Episode II, and "Anakin's Betrayal" and "Battle of the Heroes" in Episode III

Just wanted to point out that Anakin wasn't complaining about the speeder. He was sarcastically and jokingly answering Obi-Wan's question of 'What took you so long?' (as established by Obi-Wan's reply of 'If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you do your wit, you would rival Master Yoda as a swordsman).

Qui-Gon shoving the lightsaber into the door at the start of I is a fantastic scene. The look on his face is great as if he knows it is the beginning of the end.

Episode I: The opening ten minutes, Liam Neeson, Duel of the Fates.
Episode II: Um...the chase through Coruscant, maybe? And Obi-Wan playing detective.
Episode III: The Battle of Coruscant, Ewan McGregor, Anakin and Padme staring across the distance towards each other, Order 66, storming the Jedi Temple, Battle of the Heroes, and the ending.

I hated seeing Yoda and Palpatine using lightsabers.

In the final film when Annakin is burning on the shore and Obi Wan is standing over him, Ewan McGreggor's acting is great. A really powerful moment there I felt. I think that's my favourite moment out of all 3 prequel films. There is another moment in ROTS where Obi Wan, Mace and Yoda are walking down a corridor. I swear that Yoda is really with the two live action actors. It's an excellent bit of cgi and I completely missed it as it's that convincing. On a more shallow note, I really enjoy Amidala's clothes. Other than that, and Liam Neeson, I don't care for these films at all.

I liked Ewan McGregor and I very, very much liked Ian McDiarmid. His delivery of "not for a Jedi..." was marvelous.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about McDiarmid. I thought he was excellent in ROTS up until the Jedi confront him in his chamber.

Honestly I think that whole scene between Palpatine and Anakin at the opera was very well done.

The lightsaber fight at the end of Episode I was epic. I also love how the after Qui-Gon is stabbed, the fight becomes incredibly frantic. Obi-Wan becomes almost pure rage, and it shows in the fight choreography. In fact, if there's one thing the prequals really did well it was the fight choreography. Every lightsaber fight in the films was really good. The first one just took it to the highest level it's ever been.

McDiarmid played Palpatine very well. The scene in the opera house was just chilling.

The scene in ROTS where Obi-Wan tells Anakin that he loved him like a brother almost brought tears to my eyes. It was a very poignant moment, and McGregor played it well. For that matter McGregor really was great in all three films. He really was what held the films together.

Lastly, say what you will about Lucas's overuse of CGI, these are some fantastic looking films.

I also have to disagree with the people saying Liam Neeson was a highlight. Neeson is a fantastic actor and I've loved him in so many other films I've seen him in, but in TPM he was a stiff a board. I have to blame the direction on that one, as we know Neeson is capable of more (see the end of Schindler's List if you don't believe me.)

Why? Because Obi Wan and Qui Gon absolutely rocked. Then...it sucked.

I *love* the Prequels. Except for most of the acting and dialogue. And Jar Jar. Aside from that, I think they're a better story than the OT. There's a million standout bits I could name from them... the first time we see Jedi in action in TPM's opening. The Pod Race. Duel of the Fates. Seeing Padme's ship descend out of the clouds in AOTC's opening (my first ever experience of a digital movie theater). The AOTC speeder chase. Obi-Wan vs. Jango. Battle of Geonosis. Yoda vs. Dooku. The opening shot of ROTS. The entire first 20 minutes of ROTS. Obi-Wan vs. Grievous. Anakin cutting down little children. Yoda vs. Sidious. Anakin vs. Obi-Wan.
