Some say it looked just like the prop that Spock used at the camp site. Is there any truth to this and, if so, where could one find such a thing?

I saw this after hearing only a little of the bad feeling about it, IIRC, so I don't think I came in expecting the worst, but certainly not expecting the best. In the end, I believe my thought was, "nothing in particular happened, but I have a warm feeling about the whole thing." Seriously, as others here mentioned, it really did feel like a TOS episode, longer, with the characters older and wearing different uniforms. I don't have the slightest problem with that.
