The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer is here!

I've noticed that we don't ever get to see Peter weller or his character in the trailers ? I wonder why ? Does his character have a big secret part to this film perhaps he's the other Bad guy we don't know about it ??

I liked how they did this in The dark night rises we all were led to believe that bane was the main bad guy but he was not and the real bad guy or shall I say bad girl was revealed near the end of the film. Could be possible !!!

I don't know that there's anything especially mysterious about not having seen Peter Weller's character yet. At this point during the buildup to the last movie, had we seen Ayel? Had we seen Captain Pike?

I don't think we even knew what Yelchin's Chekov looked like at this point in the buildup to Trek '09.

I'm pretty sure Pike appeared in the first teaser. At least, his voice did - the "I dare you to do better" speech he gave to Kirk.

I do think that Weller's character is going to be critical to the plot of the movie. He's too well-known an actor in the science fiction community for his role to have been kept so far beneath the radar, unless telling us who he's playing would give away too much.

You're right - my mistake. And Pike actually is seen for a fraction of a second later on ("Prepare to fire all weapons!")

Still, that we haven't seen all of the primary and secondary characters appear in trailers yet, at five months out - not really so strange.

The promo for the last movie was very carefully timed and paced, only kicking into high gear for the last six weeks or so prior to release; I'd expect much the same to happen, this time out. And if Weller's character is important to the plot, as you suggest he might be, then it's entirely possible that we'll be teased with that a few times first, before anything significant gets revealed.

Anyone remember the X-Men: First Class trailer? I don't think Kevin Bacon's villain (who featured heavily in the movie) was in the trailer at all.

And we didn't know his name (Sebastian Shaw) until we went to the theater or saw the movie on home video. The producers' nod to Star Wars fans wasn't fairly common knowledge for some time and still isn't recognized in some circles.

Sebastian Shaw is the name of a very prominent X-Men villain in the comics. He's the leader of the Hellfire Club and a mutant. John Byrne based his appearance on that Robert Shaw and that's the origin of the name.

Kevin Bacon was a villain in XM:FC? That's news to me and I saw that film. *adds Ginkgo biloba to shopping list*

See, that's what I get for not reading a lot of X-Men comics in my life.

Damn my nerdiness. It failed me at an important moment! It wasn't as strong as I thought it was!

I was more of an Avengers, Hulk, Iron Man and Batman reader as a kid. X-Men was a cool comic, but only to the extent that it didn't interfere with my obsessions with G.I. Joe, the Caped Crusader and guys who wear advanced armor or turn green. ;)

Saw this teaser on Facebook today
