The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer is here!

Wow I know this is a Star Trek site, but can we read anymore in the trailer? I mean really.

I gotta agree. Further, I don't understand why people are saying "It's gotta be this or that" when it comes to who the villain is. "It can't be Gary Mitchell because of this." "It has to be Khan, because of that..."

Why? Why not? This is a restart, people. There are no rules. Continuity and canon are only 1 movie in length, not 40 years.

This is an entirely new universe. Gary Mitchell could have a British accent. Just because he didn't have one in TOS doesn't mean he can't now. Khan doesn't have to be a Sikh. We've already seen "continuity changes" from before Nero's time-travel in the first movie. The rules are broken, folks.

I personally don't understand how it can be Khan. He wasn't in the last movie. We've not seen a Abrams version of "Space Seed" yet, so it wouldn't make much sense story wise to have Khan back seeking revenge on Kirk. They've not met, yet. Further, why should Khan seek revenge on the Federation? It's not done anything to him, yet.

I'm not saying it's not Khan, I'm saying I can't see it.

It could be Khan. It could be Mitchell, it could be Garth (which is an idea I love. Garth would seek revenge on the Federation and Starfleet). Heck, I even thought about Finney.

But there is no evidence to support anyone's suspicions. There are no rules and we can't use TOS as a basis for anything.

We're not retelling TOS here, we're seeing a brand new series.

The engines are the same... after looking at them and building them over and over, it's pretty obvious. :) Like Vektor said, it's just the perspective that makes them look different. If you look closely, you can see the rim of the saucer starting to come through the water, too...

OK, that made me go back and look at the 720p version, full screen, on my 24" monitor......

It's the Big-E coming out of the water ...

I'm so ashamed ... I'll turn in my geek-card.

Q2

The first ship coming out of the water is the same old-new ugly Enterprise from the last film.

The ship shown going into the water in the harbor, however, looks different. Wider space between nacelles and slimmer nacelles, like the '79 refit.

Second shot appears to be a Federation ship, not the Enterprise taking a splash.

Continuity and canon are only 1 movie in length, not 40 years.

That should be one movie and an ongoing comic series that has Roberto Orci as a creative consultant.
Don't forget Star Trek: Enterprise, set prior to Nero's incursion.

Haha, that comic is great!

While it might be good for us here on the boards to know whether he's Mitchell or not it might be problematic for a wider audience whose knowledge of Star Trek is limited to Captain Kirk, Mister Spock and the bald French guy with the English accent.

Don't forget Seven of Nine. ;)

I like how he rambles about "your world being safe is just an illusion" when Vulcan and half of Starfleet just got destroyed by a madman.

The Enterprise rising from an ocean is even more stoopid than the Enterprise being built on the ground, I never thought they would top that, oh my. :guffaw:

Why would Gary Mitchell seek vengeance on anyone?

Regarding the 9 minute trailer it's being described on the Star Trek official FB site as "the first nine minutes." Does this mean it's the opening nine minutes of the film?

I love Enterprise, but damn that's cruel...

Don't worry, Porthos' fate probably wipes the smile off his face not long after

Wait a minute...transporter malfunction...super powers...return...revenge, oh god, it's Human/god/transporter mutated Porthos!

Logic dictates that they would indeed show the opening 9 minutes of the film.

9 minutes out of a 2-hour-plus film isn't going to be enough to spoil anything unless they show the last nine minutes...which they won't. If the very beginning of the new film is anything like the start of the last one with the Kelvin, Robau and Kirk's birth then it will reveal just enough to get people very excited but nowhere near enough to understand the villain or their motivations. Heck, we might not even see the movie's villain - Mitchell, Garth or otherwise - in the IMAX footage, just the Enterprise crew.
I prefer the first 9 minutes to be a Bond or Indy like prelude: The end sequence of an adventure of the Enterprise crew. Like the climax of a reimagined TOS episode

T'Pol would be 174, assuming she even lived long enough to see Kirk's time and survived the destruction of Vulcan.

Sweet god it's trying to hump Archers leg!!!11!:guffaw:

Thanks for the mental image of Cumberbatch leghumping a 148 year old Scott Bakula.

Hey, don't say I never gave you anything. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!;)

If Cumberbatch turns out to be playing a bats*** crazy Janice Lester in a male body, the entire film will have been worth it. :guffaw:

For some reason I checked this recently, and the years between ENT: E² and the new film seemed to be less than the years which NX-01 travelled back in E², so she's younger than the old T'Pol there. Unless I did the math wrong, but who cares about math? T'Pol and Guinan are the only living characters from other series, unless someone from DS9 decided to stay for a longer while during the Tribble debacle if it ever happened.

But Porthos had children. And grandchildren. Many of them.
