The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer is here!

My first half-assed prediction based on a few seconds of footage:

The blonde woman is Elizabeth Dehner.

Is that the same blonde woman as was in ST:XI for one second????

And for one minute there, when he was sitting back.. I thought Cumberbatch was Daniels.

I know it's only a Teaser, but this doesn't feel like Star Trek to me. We'll see what happens though as more details are released.

Yeah, I'm leaning more in the direction of the Gary Mitchell theory now than I was an hour ago.

Could still be wrong...but if that's Dehner in the trailer then I'd say Cumberbatch is in all likelihood the update of the old Gary Lockwood character.

Well, they've certainly got a fire-and-water motif going. Not sure what it means, but it's a thing.

All action movie trailers must use the Transformers bass drop in their trailers now. It's a law, apparently.

The red-vine-covered planet made me think of the Red Weed from the War of the Worlds. In a good way.

I'm rather tired of Trek movie villains being motivated by some species of vengeance. That's, what, three in a row now?

The fact that this trailer struck a totally un-Trek tone makes it easier to accept the reboot as its own thing. I might enjoy this one on its own terms, who knows.

Four if you count Insurrection. Ru'afo and the Son'a were trying to wreak vengeance on the Ba'ku who exiled them a century earlier.

Ah. True. Better a cliché, I suppose, than guys like Soran who acted all evil but didn't have anything resembling an interesting motive.

My main concern with this one is, as always, it being penned by freaking Orci and Kurtzman. I don't think I've seen a single thing they've ever written that I didn't hate.

The way Kirk was looking at her Carol Marcus seems more likely, but we'll see!

Cumberbatch sounds kind of like Bane from DKR, just clearer in his speech. There was another movie this summer/late fall like this too; I just can't remember what... The visuals are great, and I think people will like this as a nice action movie. It looks like Kirk gets Alice Eve's character as a love interest. Good for Kirk. At least I didn't make that DKR "Rise" poster for nothing because it seems fitting. I'm not sure what else to say. So, Goodnight.

I believe the writers said in an interview some months ago that they were aiming to make this one their "The Dark Knight," and that's certainly the vibe the trailers are hitting – with a slice of Bourne/Bond/Runny-jumpy-shooty-franchise and Revenge of the Sith thrown in for good measure.
