***The Star Trek Episode Clash!*** The Results!

Posted by Eddie Roth:
Take a look at the list of Clash winners. If you could redo ONE round and pick a different winner, which would it be? Which episode should've, in your opinion, won its round, but didn't? And which of the episodes on the list doesn't belong there?
I'd definitely want to redo the round where "Life Support" won. Voyager was robbed! I also pick "Life Support" as the episode that doesn't deserve to be there.

There are a fair few in which I've stood against public opinion - but the one that stands out most is The Defector coming second to Past Tense II. As much as Past Tense is fun, it just pales in comparision just because The Defector is so good, imo.

Funny. I thought it was both surprising and excellent that "Life Support" prevailed over the somewhat overrated "Unity".

I'd probably pick "Rivals" and "The Catwalk" as episodes that, in my opinion, don't belong on this list. In the case of "Rivals", however, I have to say it won against weak competition.

Oh, I only took a quick scan over the list. Didn't even notice those two. I definitely agree with you. They're two of my least favourite episodes from their respective series.

^ I'd agree with The Catwalk not being suited, too. It's not that it's a bad episode, so much - it's just not particularly affecting one way or the other...

What is good to note though is that in pretty much every single round, there's a good or excellent episode that's praised by fans - that's an immensely impressive testament to Star Trek over the years.

The one round I'd most like to see done over is the first one (Round 000). The proximity of the Episode Clash to the airing "Broken Bow" may have given it an unfair advantage. I'd be very surprised if it were to win in a rematch.

I guess that's why I think it would be better to wait a few weeks between ENT's airings and the Episode Clash: A little time might give voters a better perspective on the episodes.

Well, it was done around 15 months after it first aired, so I think enough time passed by.

The one I would change is Twilight loosing to "The Enterprise Incident"

Twilight deserves to be on that list.

For some reason, I thought it was done right after it aired (time flies). I'd still like to see the round done over, though.

Actually, I think neither is correct. It was definitely not 15 months later, but neither was it right after it aired. I can't remember either, but the Word-file in which I archive all the comepeting episodes and results was created on November 28, 2001, meaning the first clash (Round 001) happened on that day or a few days later.

I remember doing Round 000 (the Pilots) around the fifth Episode Clash, making this December 2001. About three months after Broken Bow aired.

Re: May 6 Results (Round 69)

I've just found this thread (slow, huh?) and am very impressed; thank you for your hard work. "The Clash" should officially be dubbed "the only poll that matters," in homage to the punk rock group I can only assume it was named after... "the only band that matters".

I'm a TNG fan, so I'm a little dismayed at the way things have been going, but rest assured I'll be voting from now on. Democratic participation is the way to go!

DS9's The Adversary scored a very close victory in Round 70, which ended today. With 24 votes, it stepped ahead just one vote to leave ENT's most recent show, The Forgotten, in second place (23).

One of the more predictable results, I think. Interestingly though, I should think (and would hope, in a way) that the second part of WOTW will lose against BOBW, despite being the better of the two WOTW halves..

I feel sorry for voyager and it's fans. It gets bashed all over the board, and in this contest, it has only won 5 times. Can we (I am a fan of the early voyager seasons) ever get a break. :(

Sorry, the results simply reflect reality. I've seen all five Trek series and VOY is bringing up the tail end in terms of quality (for a while there, ENT was just as bad but there has been a definite turnaround in the last half of S3, I guess the Beebs finally realized that they needed to institute plot arcs to keep the episodes from repeating what they've done before).

If VOY had been a better series, it would be doing better in the polls. That's the bottom line. I can only think of a handful of VOY episodes I would consider "pretty good" and damn few "excellent," and if they happen to be up against one of DS9's really ass-kicking shows, oh well...

Re: May 20 Results (Round 71)

^ I don't know - Voyager's first seasons weren't devoid of quality - certainly not to the point of having just 5/71 wins... There's other factors at play - be it luck or disproportionate following sizes on the BBS - but certainly while it had its flaws, it's not as dire as the results seem to indicate.

Ah yes, the old and overrated plot arc argument. Only one problem with it. TNG and Star Trek don't have plot arcs and they seem to be doing fine.
