The Simpsons go HD

I just noticed God and Satan in that pic posted. That's a nice touch.

I just wish they didn't have Homer go through the door. That's the only one that really bugs me (and, even in a shortened one, it'll still be there).

That may be a sign of the times. Remember 20 years ago? The Simpsons was the trashiest thing on TV (according to certain groups). Having Homer hit by a car in the intro might have been too much for the fledgling FOX network...but it could've been their intentions all along. Now that the show has become the norm, they add the relativly tame sequence.

Well, I think it's more of an indication of the increase of slapstick with Homer over the years. Still, the cut out of himself in the door just strikes me as a bad Loony Tune parody.

It feels like the camera is panning and zooming in too slowly. It feels dragged out unnecessarily, and it's a bit annoying. Otherwise, I don't have a problem with it.

Bart is supposed to be about my age. If you wanted to catch everything up for season 21...make Bart 30 and Lisa 28. Maggie should be 21ish with Homer and Marge in their mid 50s.

But I wanna know, what's up with Marge's total lack of a reaction at :31? In the original intro she showed some sign of relief...but now she's emotionless.
Is that the bit after Maggie is scaned?
did you see the price?
I liked it. It could be a one time thing, beeing that all us broad casts WERE supposed to go digital tomorrow?

It was supposed to be Tuesday.

Little known fact. Maggie's original price was "NRA4EVER".

Actually, her price is seen here:

According to this site that was the average monthly cost to raise an infant in 1989.

In the opening credits Maggie cost $847.63 (A joke in one of the Simpsons clip show episodes is that the cash register says "NRA4EVER")

Far be it for me to approve of change or breaking of the established habit. But I like it. I actually like this new opening sequence for The Simpsons.

I wonder if the rumor is true that they are gonna write Homer off the show to give him his own spin-off

yeah thats what I always thought.

This may be Fox's best HD offering, considering they only supply a 720p HD signal compared to the true 1080i the "real" networks show. The simplicity of the lines and colors make it work.

Shit, I've had a real HDTV for 1 week now and I'm already a snob about it!

It's good that it's going HD, but I think it's a big step for a show like The Simpsons, I mean we're used to more handrawn animation and I can't help but feel they're only doing this to keep up with South Park.

Well, all "hand-drawn" animation has been digital for years now; instead of being traced onto cels, the original drawings are now scanned and digitally inked, painted, and composited. So all animation these days is computer animation to some degree, just differing in style and technique. This was just as much hand-drawn as any other animation; it's just that it's made more detailed for HD resolution.

That's unrelated. Digital broadcasting and HDTV are two different things.

I can live with the crow but Marge hitting Homer with the car? I think it's funnier that he runs to avoid getting hit. Other than that, it's a good change. The episode was pretty good too IMO.

I really love the new opening sequence. A breath of fresh air. And the couch gag was hilarious. I love the minute long ones. Maybe it was just my good mood or excitement over the new sequence and widescreen, but I thought last night's episode was very good. I found myself laughing constantly at the throwaway one-liners, even if the story wasn't an A Plus.
