The Simpsons go HD

And in an even more stunning development, the title sequence has been altered for the first time in almost 20 years.

Can't say I approve of the alterations. I understand the need for an update but I don't like the additions. The original (technically 2nd) version has been around since I was in the 5th grade! It's iconic!

I like it.

I like the old one too, but we have hundreds of episodes that have that one, so I think we'll live. This is one of those rare times that "different for the sake of different" is actually ok.

The ONE thing I don't like about the new one is the crow at the start. It's too distracting. Everything else is fine, though.

I really like that they got an HDTV but it's still an old, purple, crappy one.

I noticed that too. I wonder if that'll be in show or just in the intro. The Simpsons tend to be a couple of years behind the times when it comes to technology. I don't think they got cable until 2000 or so.

Right. An iPod this year (sorry, "myPod") and they're continuously "discovering" the internet for the fist time.

And at other times they seemingly have thousands of dollars to blow. I guess some of Homer's get-rich-quick schemes actually work off camera!

I'm sure I'll adapt, but the opening crow, Grandpa in the car muttering and Lisa re-entering the band room all "jar" a bit. The other changes are fine.

Bart is supposed to be about my age. If you wanted to catch everything up for season 21...make Bart 30 and Lisa 28. Maggie should be 21ish with Homer and Marge in their mid 50s.

But I wanna know, what's up with Marge's total lack of a reaction at :31? In the original intro she showed some sign of relief...but now she's emotionless.

Intro's okay. It's about time they updated, and it does look good in HD.

I wonder if they will keep the HD TV. When Marge upgraded the kitchen they reverted back the next week.

loved the tomacco juice, it's about time they upgraded a bit, atleast they are trying to keep the same feel

I really liked this I have to admit.

Same here. There are a lot of nice little touches you have to pause for throughout, like a box of 'Mr. Sparkle' getting rung through the grocery checkout.
I'll have to join the "liked it" group too. The opening sequence was well overdue an update. We actually see lots of our favourite characters clearly in the sequence (as opposed to the ones who are dead :p). Plus there are several potential new running gags to be had too (billboard gags, supermarket checkout conveyor belt stuff, etc.). Loved the new HDTV at the end, even though it's still good old purple. (The couch gag was its usual overindulgent self, though.)

And Lenny and Carl are there too! :bolian:

Hey, that's great. I like it. It honours the original sequence whilst feeling totally fresh. Nice :)

It's good that it's going HD, but I think it's a big step for a show like The Simpsons, I mean we're used to more handrawn animation and I can't help but feel they're only doing this to keep up with South Park.

I don't really like the new opening at all.

I like it, but it seems that parts of it is too much fan service, such as Maggie making a fist a Gerald. And I don't know if I am that much of a fan of Homer getting hit by the car. It strikes me too much of a parody (probably because Homer getting hit has been used as a parody before).

And the title sequence has been altered before. They had a dramatically different one for the season opener that came after the Simpson movie, showing Springfield in ruins.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that!

Nice update... I'm surprised they never tried to do it earlier as it has been out of date for far too long. Though I think it's about time they ditch the couch gag./
