The sheer emotion of that trailer

BorgPhil

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
First time I watched it, I had chills, goosebumps, my eyes were welling up, the works. Now, I'm not a particularly emotional person, so it surprised me a bit. I read all the trailer threads on here and trekmovie, and it seems I'm not the only one feeling like this.

Every time I've watched it since, I'm on the verge of blubbing like a baby :D

why?! what is it about the trailer? the music? the epic-ness? the images?

and what chance have any of us got, when we actually see the whole thing in the cinema :D

I felt the same way too. When Kirk sat down in the center seat, along with the music...pure cool!

Are you talking about the trailer where we see Kirk with a bloody nose just after a bar fight? An he says..."why are you talking to me?"

That was fracking great...why do we have to wait till May?

You know there's a new trailer right?

It has that same scene in it but just premiered in front of Watchmen.

I agree, the trailer was indeed ''very'' emotional especially at the beginning were Pike tells Kirk that his father saved 800 lives, and his(baby Kirk)! and then he dare's Kirk to do better, and I just thought WOW! that was just all very powerfull!

And then I get the same reaction from my mom and bros. when I showed it
to them. It's going to be a great day to go see this film with friends and family.:)

yeah, definitely, followed by the music kicking in. also, Nero's 'James T. Kirk was a great man - but that was another life' line at the end. simply awesome.

WORD!:techman: Also I'm a little embarresed to admitt this, but when the music kicked in that sceene I neerly Cried! No trailer has EVER! done that to me! Hopefully this is a good sign!:D

I'll echo all the sentiments here.

Awesome is an oft-used word round these parts, but I was totally blown away by the new trailer.

The part that rips me up every time is when Greenwood says "Your father was Captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives. Including yours. I dare you to do better!"

God...it chokes me up just to type it out. Strong stuff.

the only thing that worries me, is how on earth can the actual film live up to all this hype now? tbh, if it's half as good as I'm expecting I think I'll be happy.

you know i was thinking about making a thread like this.

I mean I'm still worried..is the tiem travfel aspect going to alienatenew viewers? Is the plot really about destroyying whole planets, and will such detructions be reset (I I always thought Trek worked when the problems were more about decisions than huge catastrophies)

however.. the emotions in the trailer.. and that music, was awesome.

even a normally bad line, like "fire everything!" was delivered with such emotion, like desperation, as if Nero deserved something after a long quest. I hope they make Nero really not a "bad guy" but just a guy who tried hard for something and yet its opposite of what would be good for everyone else,. sure that would make him a bad guy, but I hope they inject the emotion into his quest rather than having him be mustache twirrling. etc.. you know what I mean. from the trailer, I think bana could save the film, with what could have been an average villain

I love it because of the action behind those words. It's like becoming a Starship Captain is once again something incredible, something special. I started feeling in ENT that being a Captain just wasn't a big to do. Oh I know they wanted to convey that it was, but the feeling wasn't there. This trailer managed to bring that feeling of "Jesus Christ, the man was in command of the whole starship for 12 minutes and managed to save 800 lives. Now you go and do more than that." There's power there, and you're right it's strong stuff. I love it.

yeah, we might all be focused on Pine, Quinto et al, but the film is really about Nero and Bana's performance will be key. Some of the lines that he delivers in the trailer, particularly the Kirk one really got me feeling positive about him.

We all know he has deep motivations (if we've read the comic prequels), I hope that comes across in the film as well. He has real reasons for doing what he's doing, it's not just random evil-ness

That trailer is terrific, I agree. The movie can't get here fast enough.

If I hadn't been a Trekkie since the age of four, I'd be one now. :D

My theory on such things is that the right emotional punch sweeps away all considerations of logic and rationality. If you're swept up in a movie, you don't stop to analyze whether the time travel makes any frakkin' sense. It's only the boring movies where you have time to do that.

Archer never convinced me that of all the candidates for that job that should be living on Earth, he was the one and only person who they'd choose. And being the first person in that job, it should have been more special than Kirk, but it wasn't.

But after seeing Pine in Bottle Shock, which is about as far from Star Trek as you can get, I think he does have charisma and screen presence that will allow him to capture the feel of Kirk. That's the most important thing of all (only a little bit less important is Quinto as Spock, which I've never had any worries about.)

Yeah i heard that his backstory is told in the comics.

in the other trailers, the snippets we saw of Nero.. well, it felt like he was in a different movie.

Here he seems more integrated into the action. And Bana really does seem to have real emotions (not just E-V-I-L) behind his words

Archer wasn't very interesting, epic, or much of a hero until season 3 of Enterprise, which came much too late to save it.

But Pike looks epic and his delivery of the line to young kirk challenges him to step up to the plate.

Also, we are seeing Kirk do familiar things, like sitting in the Captain's chair for the first time. We are seeing Spock do unfamiliar things like strangle Kirk (older trailer, I know) and hug Uhura back!

The music is emotionally epic in feel, too.

It would make it perfect to have Nimoy's Spock in there, if only to give us a salute.
