The SHAPE of the new enterprise? Things to come...

It's disappointing not to see any designs for the new ships yet. I know people are just dieing to see something. Reminds me of the days before TNG when a mere outline of the new enterprise hit the press. It was just the shape, and people flipped! Or so the story goes I reckon.

What do we have in design news for the new Star Trek? Some costume paparazzi pics of the actors. And those costumes look interesting, especially the shots of Spock. But nothing else. Ziltch.

I suppose we are too far from post-production to see any finished designs, but you know they must be working on it right now.

At this point, I'd take an outline again. :bolian:

I'd take a greasy cocktail napkin. With the drawing interrupted by bill calculations.

But it seems they're keeping as tight a lid as possible on this movie. The only leaks that have come out were inevitable with the crazy publicity hawks. It's not like the Enterprise will be walking back to its car or taking a lunch break anytime soon...

They seem sensible enough to cover themselves first, per the most recent photos...

What else do I have? Hoping the Orion Slave Girls go for a smoke and I get a spy pic.

What we want to see is the ship.

Come to think of it, considering the story seems to be around the time Kirk/Spock met, I'm wondering if the ole connie will appear at all (in the film)!

Nah, what am I crazy? Of course it will. :)

Don't be so sure. If it has wings, it might have legs. ;)

^^^^ Y'know, that thing might be a fake. However...It is definately a John Eaves drawing. Absolutely no doubt about it. Right down to some VERY subtle things about the style of drafting and the handwriting on the notes (compare in the "Star Trek Sketchbook - The Movies"). I don't know when or for what this was made, but a guy associated with Trek did it. Does anyone know more about the story of this sketch?

 the internet discussing the development of TNG, damm I would have loved to have seen that, would that be the funniest thing ever.

J.J Abrams - Sci-fi's new visionary. No that doesn't sound right. Gene roddenberry - Sci-fi visionary. That sounds better. The only question in my mind is will J.J. be able to do it as good as GR did it, not any better. Well we sure won't be getting any good sci-fi from these guys thats any better than TOS luminaries. It'll probably be a warmed up sci-fi premise. I call all of this the Lucifer Complex.

They're both just TV producers. Let's leave the term 'sci-fi visionary' to guys who get pink lights beamed to them from a vast active living intelligence system, or who take us to visit Arrakis, Sietch Tabr and the Shai-hulud.

Meanwhile, Roddenberry and Abrams can be called, uh... sci-fi luminaries? If you want something suitably flattering, anyway.

a vast active living intelligance system. Wasn't that V'ger ? It sounds like a much better idea for a movie than anything we're gonna get.

You were right the first time, they're both scifi/tv producers - first and foremost television producers whose primary job is to entertain. At this moment its pretty safe to assume Abrams hasn't fallen into any delusions of grandeur... if modern Trek could be spared that I'd be happy.

Yeah it went so well the suits felt pressed to take GR out of the drivers seat.

If this movie isn't first and foremost fun, it will fail.

Abrams and O&K may have succumbed to the delusion that their past successes constitute quality entertainment. :p
