The Sexy Kate Mulgrew picture thread, Part 3

These do look like Kate's hands, but hand doubles are often used. I think there was even a reference to this in Now Voyager, perhaps in an interview with Kate's stand-in. Hate to disillusion anyone, but the stand-in was the one in Chakotay's arms in Coda, in the scenes where you don't see Janeway's face.

edited: Ok, here is a link to the article where Kate's stand-in Sue Henley mentions that it was her hands in the pool scene in Clouds (although Kate held the cue and made the shot). The interview with Henley is about half-way down. http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Station/1965/archive/nowvoy3.txt

Sorry for the double post. There's a follow-up interview with Sue Henley in Now Voyager where she talks about Coda. Here is what she says, and its unclear how much of Henley's work was on screen:

"NV: Have you ever stood in for any scenes which really made your hair stand on end, like Janeway getting tortured by the Borg or murdered by the Doc? Did you double for Kate in "Coda" during the scenes where Janeway was supposed to be dead? Was that unsettling?

SH: I did double for Kate in "Coda." I don't know what got into the finalcut, but I was her in sickbay and both standing next to Chakotay and laying on the ground when she was dying on the planet. One scene which was particularly unsettling in doubling for Kate would have to be the one in
"Coda" on the planet. Standing next to Chakotay so my legs could be Kate while she was lying there dying was not easy. I have never seen Chakotay too emotional, so watching him cry at her death made me cry. I had a hard
time watching that."

So was it Kate in Chakotay's arms or not? I'm confused. :p Sue mentioned that she was the Janeway standing, so the Janeway on the ground must have been Kate.

Took the following quote from Kate's double (Sue Henley) in the NowVoyager article:

"When she's Kate's double, Sue gets an occasional moment of glory onscreen. 'Those are my hands shooting pool [in "The Cloud,"]' she gloats. But she admits that the balls scattering into the various pockets were all separate shots--and that Kate did the '"8-ball in the side pocket" herself: she didn't think she was going to make it, and everyone applauded when she did!'"

I think many of the times that we see Janeway's hands pushing buttons on panels, etc., that we are actually seeing her double's hands. Kate's nails are "bumpier" than the ones we see in this picture--her thumbnail is actually rounded from cuticle to tip, unlike this one. IMHO, of course. ;)

I'm not quite sure if it were Kate's hands or Sue's.

Here is a shot of Kate's hands, so you can compare her hands to Sue's hands.
Note: There are quite a few years between both pictures, don't forget this. ;)

^ Thanks for the pic from the 2003 Galileo Con. :)

"Prototype" was filmed in late 1995/early 1996 for the 2nd Season, while the Galileo Con, that pic of Kate's hand was taken, was held in October 2003. So eight years have passed between two pics.

IMO, I still think it's very odd to have a film-double doing something that is not even dangerous. Having one's hands on that robot isn't dangerous. Shooting pool isn't dangerous, so why the need for a film-double? Being held by Robert Beltran in "Coda" is dangerous? (Well, unless one counts giving in to one's *natural* instincts, that is. ;))
So why the need for a double? Laziness?

I think maybe it's best to just let people believe what they like to see. Not that I don't mind getting the facts, just pointing out things like this might lead to some people getting disappointed.

They use doubles all the time in Hollywood. As it was, the cast spent hours and hours on the set just getting done what had to be done by them personally. When you see a back-and-forth conversation, for example, they have to film it more than once--from over each actor's shoulders. Sometimes, they even use doubles for that. Remember when Kate went in to do her Admiral Janeway scene in "Nemesis"? She said she was flattered that Patrick Stewart bothered to come in and do it with her personally instead of just adding his responses later. She expected to be talking to a "stand in" when she did it.

That's the way it is on film. They have to reset the lights, check the sound, make sure no one left a Coke can somewhere, etc. So when they have a quick scene where someone is pushing buttons or, as in that picture, adjusting a robot, or, as Sue Henley said, shooting a pool ball over and over again, why put the actors through it? They can film it with a stand in during post-production, a few days or weeks later once the cast has gone on to another week's episode, and just put it in as they edit the show.

Perhaps it is disappointing to know that many (read most) of these shots are not the "real" characters' hands or shoulders or legs, etc., but that's the way it is.

Sorry. :(

What's this thread doing way over here on page 3? Time to bump this back on page 1. :)

Given I had little time this week, I was unable upload new screen-caps. However, thanks to a new JuPiter Station member, who went out of her way to send me some nice pics, I have added some nice interesting Kate and Janeway pics to the Station this week. All the pics below were contributed by her. :)

Looking beautiful and thoughtful at the same time. <--I consider this nice clear pic one of the best Janeway shots I've seen on the Net! And yes, it is from "Counterpoint", so I do now remember why most voted S5 in the "Which season(s) do you think Janeway is sexier" thread. :D

Jedi Knight Kathryn Janeway! Well, she does look somewhat like a Jedi Knight wearing that brown robe. ;) :D Pic from "Sacred Ground".

Giving that gorgeous smile as she claps. From "Mortal Coils"

The following is from the TV movie Daddy.

Nice lingerie there! If the breast cups were any lower, it would have been a real eye opener. :D

Nice ruffled hair, and creamy skin. Anyone like to lick her? :D

Kate in bliss! Move over Patrick Duffy, I want my turn with her!

Check out JuPiter Station if you're interested in seeing more. :)

Enjoy! :D

Have you ever seen how Kate looked like being advanced in pregnancy?
This pic was taken 1984 on the verge of giving birth to her second son, Alexander. Kate was on stage as 'Celimene' at Seattle performing 'The Misantrophe' at that time.

Ok, not that I'm a "dirty minded" girl or anything, but do you girls and guys see what I see in these pics? Furthermore, would you have predicted they would be so... there?

CRAPPING NORA, who'da thunk they had such 'definition'.

I just drooled on my keyboard, check those puppies out!!! :D :D

Well, Kate may have been pregnant at the time. Pregnancy does make a difference in many parts of the body!

Isn't it 'alien Lover' when she was like 18 or something?

Nope. Those pics are from Ryan's Hope when Mary was pregnant. :)

IIRC, Kate herself was pregnant at the time with her first child, whom she gave up for adoption.
