Hey, everybody! How many of you sew and actually enjoy it? How many of you would like to show your work? This is the thread to do it!

So...I'd like to start with a project I've been working on off and on for about two years. I finally finished my niece's quilt, which went from a baby quilt to a 70 x 88 inch quilt for her big girl bed. I took the pics in my basement.

That's an amazing piece of work! I hope your niece appreciates all your hard work. It's the kind of thing that becomes a hierloom. I don't do much sewing myself, however I have done a fair bit of cross stich in the past. I do it in fits and starts. Sometimes I do it lots and then I put it down and don't pick it up again for months and months. If I can dig some out I'll post some, but I think it might be packed away.

I can sew, and I used to sew a lot - I made my own wedding dress which I am super-proud of managing. Haven't sewn properly for a while though, no time. But I did gerry-rig together a witch's dress for my daughter's pre-school hallowe'en party by stitching the pieces over a dress she already had.

Thanks! Your stuff's awesome. I can recommend "Quilting for the First Time" to get started on a basic patchwork quilt. I should probably take pictures of and post what happened to our pool table as a result of my first experience with a rotary cutter...

Just individual stitches here and there. On occasion we'd do a pursestring to keep a chest drain in place.

The surgeons sometimes use either mattress or blanket stitches rather than interrupted (single) sutures I think, though personally I suspect it's just that they like to show off.

Thankfully, the closest I get to suturing these days is using a surgeon's knot to tie off the ends of the garbage bags.

I actually just went into JoAnn's a couple days ago, and while I meant to just pick up a skein of yarn and some elastic...and ended up walking out with about 15 yards of fabric, some more yarn, a disappearing ink pen, and a pair of circular knitting needles. You'd think since I've worked there I could resist it, but apparently not (the clearance fabric was half off!). So I've been super excited about sewing since then...I made my roommate a few pairs of pajama pants since she was saying she only had one pair left that didn't have holes in them, and I cut up a pair of corduroys that don't fit me anymore and am going to put panels down the sides, and I'm planning on making myself a messenger bag, since my old one broke.

I've never done any quilting, but I have all the fabric I need to make one for my mom, I just need to buy a rotary cutter and mat. Peach Wookie, I can imagine how your pool table looked.

I don't think I have any pictures of anything I've made though, and I don't have a digital cameral right now...my mom's going to give me her old one when she gets a new one soon.

I don't sew, but I can knit. I just finished this hat a few days ago. My sister got a scarf for Christmas, which she adored.

Just simple interrupted for me.

I didn't start til two Christmases ago when my mom asked me to knit her some dishcloths (apparently she assumed I knew how and didn't realise I would have to buy a book on it and teach myself ). I got the circular needles so I can knit some socks, which I haven't tried to do yet, but have a book on it.

I really amused one of my friends who was over one time when I was knitting...I screwed something up, and went, "Goddammit, I just fucked up my knitting!" and he just looks at me and goes, "Well, there's a phrase I never heard my grandma say..."

I... may have gotten one of these for Christmas. I may eventually tackle a pair of socks. I bought yarn for it, and ended up using the yarn to make something else.

And I just finished another hat had earlier today. I'm trying to decide what to work on next.

I love needlework. I knit, crochet, sew, and quilt among other types. I'm about to become a grandma for the first time, so I'm going crazy knitting and sewing for my granddaughter-to-be. I'll have to take some pictures of my work in progress.
