The Seven of Nine Show

If you cut each Janeway in half, wouldn't you have 4 Janeways? I seem to remember something about that from high school biology class lab exercises in 1965.

Speaking of cutting Janeway in half...I think Kate Mulgrew would have made a fine Borg Queen. I'm sure Mulgrew would have approved of even more Mulgrew in the finale.

Well that is in her character.

Borg Queen Janeway resents that she was not assimilated years earlier than she was, that her crew was struggling in their filthy painful individuality for years longer than they needed to, so goes back in time to speed up the proccess.

Absolutely. TOS focused heavily on Kirk, Spock and McCoy, to the point that every ep focused on one of them, and even McCoy was secondary to Kirk and Spock.
All the other shows gave attention every now and then to every member of the main cast, which I think made for a stronger show with better developed casts.
But I can't deny Seven did dominate the series once she came on. She was popular, and there were a lot of great interesting stories around her, but she did become a quick fix to all their problems.

I used to have a behind the scenes book, where there are all these letters between the production staff which complained that Spock being more famous and beloved than Kirk was a problem that needed to be dealt to lickity split.

I guess this happens with characters, often unpredictably. Remember how Happy Days became dominated by Fonzie?

So in this post on ENT someone gives the totals of all lines for all shows. I asked them where they got the figures from.

hmm.. now I have to ask them what the 'captain' thing is.. oh apparently it is lines spoken about the captain? gah.

These were the VOY ones posted:

Total Voyager Lines 68322
Janeway 11921 (17.45%)
captain 2993 (4.38%)
Chakotay 6251 (9.15%)
EMH 6068 (8.88%)
Doctor 1119 (1.64%)
Paris 5617 (8.22%)
Tuvok 5444 (7.97%)
Seven 5041 (7.38%)
Kim 4761 (6.97%)
Harry 508 (0.74%)
Torres 4579 (6.70%)
Neelix 3852 (5.64%)

Well let's see, many of the audience didn't like Harry, didn't like Neelix, didn't like Kes, didn't like Chakotay. Were on the fence about Tuvok and Paris.
Nobody hardly talks about Torres.
So who did the writers real have left to write about that the audience did like?
So yeah, Seven had to make up where everyone else fell short.
Plus, when you do a marketing campagine that puts her image everywhere to get an audience to tune in, then as a studio you wanna try and get your money back. That means giving folk what they tuned in for. Her.

As Robert Picardo said: "If putting her image everywhere helps me keep a job, then I'm all for it!"

I think that TOS was far more the Kirk, Spock and McCoy show than VOY was the KJ, 7 and EMH show though.

There are only 3 names in the opening credits of TOS because they are the only stars of the show. The others are in the closing credits and were only meant as a supporting cast. It was only due to fans and films that they also got starring roles.
