I think if they concentrate on the characters, it should be about big people doing big things, professionally, the way the series was.

It shouldn't be about who fancies who, and who's fallen out with who, 'cos they wouldn't share their sweeties. Voyager got like that.

Perhaps a 'Soft Weapon' scenario where both sides find a preserver artifact and are fighting to keep claim of it while both landing parties try to figure out what they are dealing with.

It doesn't need to be a big weapon mcguffin or as such. It would be better left as an incomprehensible thing that the Starfleet Officers might geta rough idea what it does, and when they play with it BAD things happen to the point they might figure trashing it is a better idea. or they repair it enough that it' 'wakes up' and leaves
