The Sequel Hints for Improving Trek (S.H.I.T.) List

Re: The S.H.I.T. List

::chin rub:: Hmm, yes; trashed by the gravitational forces of the singularity. That would sure total your car any day.

The Sequel Hints for Improving Trek List

<snip>
Fabius, I've amended your thread title (slightly) in an effort to reduce the likelihood of "S.H.I.T." being displayed prominently on the Main Index.

I'll also add this link to another thread in which are collected many suggestions/wants/ideas for the sequel movie:

What actors / characters / plots do you want to see in Star Trek XII?

The thread title reminded me of the campus sign at the entrance of the Springfield Heights Institute of Technology, shown in an old Simpsons episode. Naturally, you had to make the acronym for yourself. But I mean, come on, what alum wouldn't proudly wear a sweatshirt from old SHIT? :)

Re: The S.H.I.T. List

That Engineering is really, really big and that we don't even know what part of it we saw in this movie.

More seriously, just change it and ignore the fact that it's been changed. The audience will accept that.

Yes. Trek fans are very forgiving that way. ;)

Spock must be less emotional in the next movie, he got to use his human side as never before because he lost his mother and his planet in a few seconds, and he was goaded on by Kirk.

He won't have that in the next movie. He has to be more Vulcan and like the old Spock.

I would like to see Kirk and Co take on The Borg. But not the crappy borg we got in Voyager...more like the kind of borg we got in Enterprise: Regeneration. But not the typical Borg invasion story either.

1) I can understand Paramount balking at a whole new Engineering set, but at least put up some fake walls so it looks like something other than a big box, and maybe add some glowing warp cores in one part.
2) No revenge-motivated villains (didn't have a problem with it this time but that's it, I've reached my limit)
3) Give us a little wee hint of a sci-fi concept in the plot. I'm not talking Solaris here, I know Star Trek is mainly space adventure, but just a dash for seasoning.
4) Ditto on social commentary. Don't go to Picardian levels of preachiness, please, but a moral dilemma doesn't have to slow down the story if done well.
5) An alien we haven't seen in the movies yet. I mean come on, there's plenty of time for Klingons.
6) Spock's increased emotional control, a natural reaction to dealing with his loss, causes him to become distant from Uhura (not because I hate the relationship, but because I think it makes sense, and gives Zoe Saldana something to work with.)

might make more sense if it's the Hints for Improving Trek Sequel (H.I.T.S.) List

The audience isn't composed of "Trek fans" anymore.

Thankfully.

1. Engineering is cool, leave it alone. This is a matter of a bunch of people who expect Voyager-esque clean, central warp core, tiny engine rooms and they need to get over it.

2. Every single line of Scotty's should not be a joke, and his jar jar like sidekick should die in a transporter accident.

3. Please, a brand new adventure in this brand new universe. We are free from the shackles of continuity - LET'S NOT WASTE THIS OPPORTUNITY. The writers have done the impossible, brilliantly - given us a prequel where we don't know the outcome. No other franchise has ever had this without a complete do over. WE ARE LUCKY. Are we really going to blow it by re-doing Khan?

i dont see how they could even put klingons into the "refit" movies. i mean, do you make them look like the TNG klingons, so the new audience reconizes them, or use the TOS ones to keep with cannon?

Yeah, cut the comedy some with Scotty. As for the sidekick, he looks like he's already been thru one transporter accident ("Oh, my God. Don't worry Rand, it wasn't your fault.").

No need for it to happen again.

Re: The S.H.I.T. List

NO to Shatner (get over it guys). No to Nimoy as well. He passed the torch well in this film, there's no need for him to be the sequel.

I liked the lens flares

Can you explain what the lens flares are all about...every time I ask this question the thread gets buried and I never see the reply! What is the reason for it...?

For reasons of kewl I imagine

I think the flares are meant to be more naturalistic. Making everything just feel a bit more real. Some hate it, some barely noticed. I can take or leave it.

I never noticed it. Even now when I go back, I notice maybe once and then forget about them.

Well they didn't bother me...I was expecting to be really distracted the way everybody was talking about it....but realistic for whom...? The audience in the theatre??? I just don't understand the concept of that because aren't we supposed to be like flies on the wall and last time I checked flies normally don't carry around camera equipment which generates these lens flares....

Birng in the character of Number One and have her legitimately beat the kobayashi Maru. I'd love to see the expression that everyone will give Kirk when news circulates.

The engineering/bridge difference reminded me of the Doctor Who episode 'Invasion of Time' in the 70's when you go into the Tardis you get the white control room then deeper in the Tardis looked like an old factory (because thes where they fillmed it becuse of budget) .

I would like to see:

Kirk acting his age and position.
The Spock/Uhura thing ended.
Someone older than 25 having an important role in the story.
No more destroying fine classic cars.
More screen time for McCoy. He was great.
Engineering looking less like a cold storage warehouse.
Klingons, Andorians, and other aliens. No more Rommies for a while.
Other classes of ships explored in detail. Single engine destroyers for example.
Keep the planets kinda like they were in TOS. No sense in moving planets to other parts of the galaxy like they did with Delta Vega.
