The scene with Jack (spoilers)

I thought it was a lovely scene. It was nice subtle reference to Children of Earth and The Doctor helping Jack through the pain. So what if it's two guys?

Exactly.

And if I had kids and they asked about that scene, I'd just explain to them that some men fall in love with other men and some women fall in love with other women, and Jack and Alonso are men who fall in love with other men.

And, lest the bigots out there object, no, that's not the sort of line of questioning that's inevitably going to lead to explicit descriptions of anal sex any more than explaining that men and women fall in love always leads to explicit descriptions of the missionary position.

It annoyed me at first. Not because Jack was hooking up with a guy, but the notion that all Jack needed to get over the events of CoE was a shag!

The more I think about it though, this is Jack we're talking about here so, much like James Bond, that probably is the best way for him to get over something

I don't think the point was Jack just needed a shag, it was that he'd spent time moping and then the Doctor came along and showed him life was still going on.
If it was just a matter of him getting laid he'd have noticed Alonso already and been chatting him up.

Some people are really full of themselves. I don't get how people can get upset by a harmless little fun scene like that. I hope their children outgrow that sort of thing.

Not really because Alonso didn't arrive at the bar until the doctor had told Jack his name...but I do see what you mean, although talking of life going on you'd have thought Gwen's baby would have demonstrated that!

But that's not really the way grief and despair work, is it? Sometimes you have your head up your own arse and don't see the forest for the trees, and it takes the right person to snap you out of it.

Did anybody else think that the scene near the end of Part 2 of The End of Time with Ten hooking Jack Harkness up with Alonzo in the bar was a bit inappropriate for what's supposed to be a family show? I sat there and felt distinctly uncomfortable watching it.
I had no problem with it in any way. I leave the sexuality of other consenting adults up to those consenting adults. The show has already dealt with the issue of homosexuality so this was nothing new.

If you want to get technical, Alonzo isn't human. At least not the Earth brand, he's from Stow.

Oddly enough, this is probably the most innocent scene with Jack on the show. Yet it gets complaints because some viewers can't stand the idea of people doing things they would never do.

Dang. Two trolls in one thread. How fun.

The scene was not inappropriate, and for a scene that lasted all of 30 seconds in an episode that lasted 72 minutes, I would hardly say it's worth mentioning. How in the world did 30 seconds outweigh 71 minutes 30 seconds of everything else?

Indeed it was too short, the Doctor should've smacked Jack upside his head Jethro Gibbs style for leaving earth at the end of COE. :techman:

Agreed. It was one of my favourite scene in the episode, absolutely beautiful.

Ah, some folks should lighten up. It's a TV SHOW! I'm a straight guy who thought the scene was hilarious! And I needed a laugh with all the kleenex moments I was experiencing at that point in the show.

No.

I was glad to see Jack, and I thought it was rather sweet of the Doctor to help him out.

"Family viewing" often includes heterosexuals being flirty with one another - check out the goddamned Disney Channel 'Tween sitcoms for endless examples - and there's nothing more inappropriate about showing gays romantically attracted to one another than straights.

I suffer from Asperger's Syndrome...

This appears to be epidemic on the Internet.

"Daddy those two boys like each other?"

"Yes, unfortunately that happens sometimes."

Totally awesome, except not. If you've got problems with homosexuality, air them outside of this forum. Next time is a trolling infraction.

And any accusations of trolling must be handled by using the mod notification button. Otherwise, that might also be met with an infraction.

Didn't have any problem with the Doctor setting Jack up with some-one.

Now the implication of the Doctor knocking boots with Queen Elizabeth the First - bit off putting - the Doctor has alwasy been above that sort of thing.

Sex? Where do you think his children came from?
