Roxxon plays very heavily into Cloak and Dagger, maybe they didn't want to use them in both franchises.

More likely there was just no call for a petrol station or tanker to show up in Runaways. I mean the main reason movies & TV shows use fake companies like this is so they don't have to bother getting clearance using a actual brand name. In the case of Marvel it also just to happens to be a comic book reference at the same time.

Also, I kind of get the impression that while certainly brilliant and successful, Stein isn't even close to being in the same league as Stark. For one thing he seems to mostly sell consumer goods (I think a self-driving car was his main thing, no?) whereas Stark Industries has (or at least *had*) massive government and military contracts and all the capital and infrastructure that entails. Kind of a small fish in a big pond type scenario.

That's certainly a possibility, and given Victor's attitude I would have loved to see how he reacted if someone had told him something like "Yeah, you're pretty brilliant, but you're not exactly Tony Stark."

Season 1 is coming to Freeform. Hopefully the fact that Runaways makes its broadcast debut on the same network as Cloak and Dagger means that a crossover is more of a possibility than we imagined.

What I read is that the season 1 premiere is airing on Freeform after the C&D finale, but there's no word yet on whether the entire season will air. It might be more like how Star Trek: Discovery's premiere was broadcast on CBS to entice people to subscribe to CBS All Access to see the rest.

Right, but at the very least the chances of a Runaways/Cloak and Dagger crossover are higher now than they were before.

That said, I wouldn't want a crossover anytime soon. The characters still need more time to find their own footing. Maybe if both shows are still around in 3 years. (Or maybe even if only one show is still around, they could try to get the leads to show up on the other.)


That said, Runaways was awesome, and if this broadcast gets a few new folks to give it a watch, then thats a win.

I got excited when I saw that, but I skimmed through the next two weeks on TV Guide and they are showing movies on both Thursdays, so it looks like a one time thing.

Honestly, after watching the first episode, I'm not that eager to see the rest. The story and characters didn't engage me much. The kids are basically a bunch of stereotypes -- the jock, the radical feminist, the loner goth girl, etc. And watching high schoolers be petty and mean to each other for most of an hour wasn't fun -- I endured way too much of that in real life. I mean, I guess they'll bond more through their adventures and all, but it's pretty slow-paced so far.

I guess I'll want to see the rest eventually just for the sake of MCU completism -- though the MCU's TV side is feeling increasingly less connected, both to the movies and between shows. There's already a disconnect between Runaways and Doctor Strange in that they have contradictory versions of the Tina Minoru character (though the one in the movie isn't explicitly called that onscreen).

Runaways is certainly a slow burn but I thought that it was really well done and does a great job of fleshing out the personalities of the parents as well as the Runaways. My only complaint was that sometimes it felt like the parents were the main characters rather than the kids.

That just says it's the TV showrunners' intention to treat them as separate characters. It's become increasingly obvious that the people making the MCU movies couldn't care less what the TV shows do. I figure it's only a matter of time before the films do something that directly contradicts the shows.

But yeah, for now I assume the woman in Doctor Strange just wasn't Tina Minoru despite how she was billed, in the same way that I assume Kayla's unnamed sister in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a different person from Emma Frost. However, I think I read an article a while back where someone offered a plausible theory for how both Tina Minorus could be the same person.

In season one connections to the larger MCU were tenuous at best (Culver University, WHiH). Apparently, season two will have at least one direct link.

Even in the comics the connections to the larger continuity were pretty tenuous. Cloak, Dagger & Cap all showed up, but they were little more than cameos.

Well, there are two characters that join the team in the comics after the Pride story had run its course that could be incorporated, but they would probably have to change their origins a bit. Although, the seeds of both of their origins have already been planted in the MCU timeline.

Victor Mancha is a human/cyborg creation of Ultron, another attempt to create an offspring (and thus is Vision's brother).

Xavin is a Skrull prince who was betrothed to Karolina (who is herself an alien princess in the comics). When Karolina told Xavin that she wasn't into men, he was like, "Oh, no problem".

Both of the characters fit into the theme of the show despite not being kids of the Pride. Victor wanted nothing to do with "dad" and ran away. When Karolina and Xavin were to be separated by Xavin's royal responsibilities, s/he also did the running away thing.
