The rewatch is going well...

Friendship 1-He had absolutely no reaction to the appearance of Joe Carey. I remember the first time I watched it I didn't pay much attention to it either but I didn't think he was dead. I heard a rumor that he was supposed to show up more than he did but the actor wanted more money...

So when we sent out long distance probes in the future we should send a warning with them? Do not try this at home!

The scene with B'Elanna in the beginning might have worked better if she had perhaps been lamenting the fact that she shouldn't go instead of insisting on wandering around in a toxic atmosphere...

A remark was made about how far Paris has come as a medic. Early on he was bumbling around in sick bay and now he's successfully delivering and reviving a premature infant. Who was the father of that baby? Was it the scientist? I missed that somewhere.

There is always that ONE guy (sometimes its a woman) who stands in the way of getting things done because of ego or paranoia. I'm sure there is a trope name for that.

For the most part he liked this episode. Wasn't too upset about Carey simply because he never formed a real attachment to him. I think he might have been more upset if it had been Vorik.

We shouldn't go exploring because someone might die? Don't most explorers accept that risk?

my question is why would he come back just to die? Did he need money? Did he say "sure, let's make this full circle so people stop asking me where I am on the ship?" What?

Maybe it was a fun gig. Jennifer came back despite being kicked to the kerb.

I like to think it was (for the most part) an enjoyable group to work with.

Natural Law. Hmm...I am as some of you know 1/4 Cherokee and have a bit of a problem with 'just leave the indigenous people alone' mentality. One the one hand it's good to preserve a culture but on the other hand...it's denying individuals freedom of choice. If there is something new and different just over the fence at least give them the choice of rejecting it or not. Don't force it on them...just let them know it's there. Too bad they didn't show Chakotay and Seven flirting a bit. That might have helped.

Homestead-'The Talaxians are the Scots-Irish of the galaxy. They keep moving around, got kicked out of several places and wound up living in a most inhospitable location. For those non-Americans among us the Scots-Irish (I believe they were called 'Ulster Scots' elsewhere) were settlers who were (unlike the Talaxians) a rough bunch who liked to fight and get in trouble and got kicked out of just about any place where they tried to settle. No one wanted them and they wound up eeking out a rough living in the Appalachian highlands. They are good people for the most part and you would want them on your side during a war but in other ways they are the most stubborn and resistant to change people in the country. I say this as a descendant of one of the FIRST Scots Irish settlers in Virginia. Anyway...that's what the Talaxians made us think of. Scots-Irish. Good by Neelix...but he won't go away. He's always showing up in the novels.

Renaissance Man-I have to be in a particular mood to watch this one. There is a bit of a mystery in the beginning when we clearly see Janeway is not acting like herself and goofy humor when Paris kisses the Doctor (That relationship ended on a surprising note). I can't help but think how pissed off the Seven/Doctor shippers must have been at the way they handled that 'revelation' at the end. It was...ok but it's not something I would have used as an episode so close to the end.

It probably would have been better earlier. "Homestead" probably would have made more sense as the penultimate episode, saying goodbye to Neelix and then getting back home.

Why? Where do you think it should have been placed?
it was serious, then comedy, then up pops the serious finale. In my perspective it was an issue about flow. Bear in mind, I didn't pay attention to any count down until the final episode. I was a kid. So I was doing my home work and when Voy was on I showed up. So I felt surprised we were already at "Endgame". I knew it was coming to a close with Homestead but it seems abrupt. That's why I feel some placement control makes sense even in an episodic series.

Renaissance Man felt very similar to Tinker, Tailor, Doctor, Spy. They both involve the doctor, the Hierarchy and have comedic elements. Maybe they wanted to separate them by as many epidodes as possible in the running order.

It was definitely out of place though.

I don't think that many drugs could be taken in one writing session without the gap.

Lynx will add his 2 cents very soon. Poor guy XD The episode that shall not be named. It was bizarre! And once again how on earth does Janeway fix all those tattered hallways? give me a break.
That episode was the worst piece of s**t ever aired on any TV channel and a spit in the face to the Kes fans.

What I still don't understand is that they fired Jennifer Lien to make place to Jeri Ryan at the beginning of S4 (because according to producers, the casting was too "large" and it was impossible to have both in the same time even though, their characters were completly different) but right S6, they hired temporarely 4 young actors to play Borg children in order to definitively base the concept of humanity (including of maternal instinct) in Seven's mind.
Right S5, after the episode with One, we knew that Seven was capable to feel empathy, generosity and maternal instinct towards others.

I prefer not to talk about the return of Jennifer Lien/Kes the time of an episode.
Usually, writers try to propose a interesting/nice script to mark the return of a former regular but there, they have purely and simple screw Kes character and of course, its performer (though Lien has showed AGAIN to unsettle her capacity to be played dramatic scenes). Hey, even the character of Neelix - nevertheless always so demonstrative - remained distant what was surprising because Kes was supposed to have been the love of his life (even if separated at the end of S3).
Anyway, A shame!
(furthermore, I note that Kes didn't even have the opportunity to meet Seven - I think on the other hand that 2 actresses had the opportunity to mee behind the scenes).

I don't pretend to understand why they did what they did what they did when it came to hiring and firing.

I've said before that I had no problem with Kes coming back...even an angry Kes but at least give her a decent reason to come back angry instead of turning her into a mush brained 'can't be reasoned with alien of the week'.

We finally watched Endgame. He had never seen it. He didn't mind the way it ended...the time travel bits, the way the Borg were handled...just showing up on earth's doorstep with nothing more...he thought it was a good way to end the show. No nit picks...nothing.

Personally I would like to know a bit more about the original time line. One of the Voyager re-launch books touches on it a little but I'd like to know more.

He officially enjoyed the re-watch (remember he saw some of these episodes for the first time) and is a fan of the show. :)

I of course always have to read the books after a re-watch. :) I tell people to just read Homecoming up to the point where Kim meets his parents. If they absolutely MUST know what else is going on it's on them. I hesitate to tell people to skip the Golden novels because there is is one storyline that Byers carries over into her books but apart from that...there's not a whole lot there because Byer's drops all the other plot points.

Now we are watching DS9 again and I'm thinking of reading the re-launch books for that but it will be a while. I gave up buying books for Lent. ;)

Temporal investigations immediately took them (and their 25th century technology) back to where they were.

That's why it ended there.

The only real nitpick I have about "Endgame" is the abruptness of the ending. Even an extra minute or two of them approaching Earth, showing the crews reactions, etc. would have helped greatly.

True. It would have been nice to hear/see Janeway's final address to the whole crew, her voice piped over every comm line like she has done in Resolutions - annd even, her image projected into every display with all over, people watching he -, to say something like, they on Voyager are a family and families stick together and support one another (I know, a little too preachy but well,...) and to thank them for their loyalty, for their courage and for the accomplished work during this unexpected long mission. And at the end of her emotional speech, that it has been a pleasure and a privilege for her to serve with each and everyone of them, etc...

Very fortunately, we have some fanfictions which very well knew how to "show" it!

Yes a final scene would have been nice. The whole crew in a cargo bay with everyone there in their dress uniforms, Tom and B'Elanna with little Miral. A speech by Janeway...that would have been good way to end it.

I started to read the fanfic series that carried on the eight and ninth 'seasons' but I was bored by it about halfway through...not saying they weren't well written or anything. I just didn't care for the direction it took. I much prefer the relaunch novels take on it although I know some favor what ST Online did to carry on the story.

'If you take some mind altering substance and watch that episode (Threshold)...I'm telling you...you'll appreciate it!" Robert Duncan McNeil

Yep. by seeing again this episode, I realized that Janeway / Paris would have been able to make an attractive couple (in spite of the difference in age)! ;)

Originally they were going to make the pilot a bit older and the female Captain a bit younger and the intention was for a relationship to form between them but according to Robbie McNeil that obviously never went past the 'idea' phase.

That does make me wonder about something. They originally wanted the character of Nick Larcarno. Would he still have been the pilot? If so who how much younger was the Captain supposed to be? Or was Larcarno supposed to have another position....like OPS or tactical?
