So the decision to make it the Enterprise-G was a later change? Ugh. That’s even worse. At least the USS Picard would have made more sense in that regard.

Really, the idea of letting the audience "live in" and root for and get attached to a new ship for so many hours before dubbing it "Enterprise" is a rather clever one. If that's what they did.

Regardless of whether there is a Legacy series, we now have the legacy of a new Enterprise amongst the ships of the line.

If Terry does not get a show out of this, then I for one will fan fic the hell out of this new ship, as I am sure that @Danja will do too. I may even collab with her on something if she wants.

No it wasn't.

Doug Drexler pitched the idea, but the show was cancelled before he ever got any word back.

He also didn't design the refit we got until after the show ended. So even if the idea for a refit was approved, it wouldn't have necessarily looked the way it does, because the design would have had to have gone through an approval process.

I dunno that you can truly say the NX-01 lasted only 10 years in service.

Archer says it was being mothballed but it clearly was refit for active duty (possibly during the Romulan war) or as a test bed/training ship.

The Romulan war took place before 2161.

They did consider the name 'Picard', It didn't have anything to do with possibly continuing into a season 4.
