The "Real" Star of Enterprise

After reading some of the posts been a newbie as you like to put it , the real star of the show was NX-01 herself , she was something new a up and coming star of StarFleet making those first steps with the warp 5 engine to go into the unknown area of space , and with a good story line got me "hooked" all over again .
But the 3 third series was like watching paint dry , surely they could have come up with story line that didn't take up the whole of the season . They had a chance to explore different stories instead of waiting till the the final season, then try and get it all in . I loved Enterprise and only wished that we didn't get the chance to see her in her refit configuration . Now that would have been something.

I think it was mostly pandering to Doug Drexler.

I've got my issues with the NX-01, but I don't want to be harsh to the ship in its own thread so I'll say that it's clear the designers put a lot of thought into it and I don't remember ever feeling that a scene got the scale wrong or anything like that.

The NX-01 is one of my top five ships but only as the ISS NX-01 or Lorian's variant with the fucked up deflector dish. I never realised how big it was as I was watching it, as it's saucer is about as big as the NCC-1701's, so with the secondary hull added it's almost as big as the NCC-1701 altogether, and I kinda don't like it. I always liked the ship being small and probably would have made it even smaller, like a tight cramped submarine. When I was watching I figured the NX-01 all up was about the size of the saucer, which probably makes no sense but what I thought at the time.
There's plenty of fan-art of the refit.

I think the NX-01.5 refit is ugly as hell, and ruins a nice design for the sake of pandering to fans.

I thought I was the only one! It looks like a contrived mash-up to me, like a lot of Ryan Church's designs for Star Wars when he tried to bridge the trilogies by doing the SF equivalent of putting bi-plane wings on a Spitfire, when that gradual evolution of design doesn't really happen in real life.

I get what they were trying to convey with the uncovered nacelles. Even though it made the ship more advanced that it should be on tv, it was also saying that the world that the NX-01 inhabits is a fresh, bright, optimistic, new world. It does make sense.

But the NX-refit occurring during the mid-2150s happens way too soon. It should have slowly progressed over decades, as there was plenty of time between ENT S4 and The Cage for refits to happend.

2160s: nacelle coverings, Columbia NX-02 style deflector dish covering, bridge pillar, UFP decals on saucer section, seat belt for the captains chair, top warp 6.9.

2170s: drive section added, warp regulator still attached to fins, top warp 7.

2180s: warp regulator attached to drive section, UFP decals on saucer section removed, top warp 7.2-7.9.

2190s-2200s: LCARS 1.0 systems in use, replacing the S/COMMS system in use since the 2140s-50s, bridge pillar removed.

2210s: NX class retired as warp 8 barrier broken.

The NX class is still smaller than the Constitution class. and the Daedalus class is smaller than the NX class.

If the NX class was placed side by side with an Excelsior class, Reliant class, Galaxy class, and Defiant class, it would be understood just how small the NX class is.

That depends if we can ever agree on what size the other ships actually are!

At least the NX's dimensions are pretty unambiguous... I think.

Next to the NCC-1701 and NCC-1701-A it's saucers are almost equal. Add in a secondary hull and there's not much difference.

Have you seen USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C , now that is one ugly ship it looks like someone has been going mad with a air pump!

You mean the D, right? There's nothing about it that's in proportion. There's nothing that has radial symmetry. There's nothing that has balance. There's not even a visual sense that the center of mass exists internal to the shape of the ship. It's just plain ugly to look at. There's no angle where it looks good. It always looks like it's about to pounce on something that isn't even there, or it's going to tip over.

I was looking at the windows on the side thinking 'there something not quite right there', so I resized them to show what the ships look like in an alternate universe where all their decks are the same height. The NX-01 has really shrunk!

It held its own to the Borg. A highly advanced alien race from the future. Such an event should've been comparable to "Bambi meets Godzilla" but oh well.

{In best Obi-Wan voice:} "Those aren't the Borg you are looking for".
Those Borg were cut-off from the majority of the Collective, and therefor, its wealth of knowledge. They were also working with very inferior tech for their conversions. I think it was amazing they were able to do as much as they did, being hamstrung like that. The Borg made sense to me, the Ferengi, not so much. Think about it this way - your tech works against you with the Borg. Neanderthals would do better in a fight (shields don't work against rocks and sticks LOL).

The U.S.S. Enterprise (A) should NOT be that big. I HATE that. Thats some egomaniac swinging his ship around going, "mine is bigger than yours". Ego... it will be the death of all franchises. As for the thread topic, I might have to agree. I'd say the ship and Archer are tied, with T'pol's pajamas running a close 3rd. :p

The real star of Enterprise was the gazelles. UPN should have just aired unedited footage of gazelles giving birth in Enterprise's time slot instead. It would have been truly amazing and likely lasted for a full seven season run.

I guess Jolene Blalock's abs were another possibility as the star, but no, it's the gazelles.
