The positive Voyager thread: What was good with the series?

If you're erased from history, other people bought your shit and they are touching it.

With the right will, you make surely that all your worldly possessions are burnt.

Mine.

Hands off.

Whether people worship you, erect statues of you or don't know who you are, makes no difference once you're dead. Your oblivion will be exactly the same with or without remembrance.

The experience of death is presumably identical. But ultimately, what else is there to live for but to create and leave a legacy? And being erased robs you of that, and your loved ones of ever knowing you (even if they're forever ignorant of it)

Plus, if you have children, and your existence was erased it would mean they were erased also.

I think that Tuvok is one of the best aspects of VOY. I always enjoyed the Tuvok focused episodes, especially the one where he had to communicate why he could not reciprocate feelings for an alien woman (cannot remember the name of the episode :( ). Such a rich dynamic for that character.

Tuvok was pretty invisible to me for some time, but then he became my favorite Star Trek Vulcan, and one of the reasons I enjoy Voyager so much. I wish there was several more Tuvok-focused episodes. Tim Russ and whoever cast him did a great job.

When Neelix isn't being obnoxious, he has some really fantastic moments. He's always like 2 levels away from being a very compelling character. There are many episodes where Neelix just needs to be turned down a notch.

That goes for the Doctor too...…."Photon Be Free!" .......geeez

I always thought Neelix was a valuable member of the crew that helped keep them together. I hear a lot about how either worthless he was or annoying.

The last episode he was in when he found other Talaxians and decided to stay with them was among the most touching.

I have to resist the urge to point out how illogical some things were in that episode though, it's so easy with this show.

What exactly was illogical in this episode?

I feel like Neelix gets too much hate.

There is all the credit to Ethan Phillips for his portrayal. There are some Neelix episodes that work incredibly well and cement his relationship with the crew. There are just as many (if not more) where Neelix claims to know something and gets people hurt because he doesn't actually.

But, in the spirt of the thread Neelix and Tuvok were a great back and forth.

I like the idea and "promise" of Neelix, but I don't think Ethan Philips did justice to the character most of the time. I've seen Ethan show up in a few shows here and there, and after seeing him act I realized what was really wrong with "Neelix". "Neelix" WAS supposed to be a bit annoying, jealous, lovable, a comedic foe for Tuvok, etc. But he could never really pull these things off. Someone said "The doctor on 'Enterprise' is what 'Neelix' should have been". I understand what this means, because the Phlox character was well acted and the actor really brought depth to the character. Neelix was almost always three steps away from this. No depth, boring, and mediocre.

"Neelix" or maybe the promise of Neelix... definitely a Voyager plus. As long as you look past the mediocrity.

Well, the Talaxian colony Voyager found was 40,000 light years away from Talaxia, the area where Voyager was originally stranded at.

It would have took Voyager 40 years to reach that same area the colony was in and the only reason they got there in 7 years was because of accidents and freak occurrences.

The Talaxians seem to have gotten there in only 17 years. It would have took the Talaxians 40 years to travel to that asteroid field too.

They travelled through a Vaudwaar corridor for the first 20,000 light years of their journey

Well, you're arguing that it is implausible, not illogical as the issue has nothing to do with logic. We would have to know the backstory for their presence to be called implausible, anyway. The Talaxians were there, that's all we know. The fact Voyager was there as well makes an argument for the implausibility of the Talaxian's presence very difficult..

One could also argue that someone can't be robbed of something they never had to begin with.

There are plenty of laws on the books to protect people from potential losses due to someone else's negligence, in essence protecting them from the loss of something they never had. Even a murder conviction punishes someone for robbing another person of time that philosophically speaking, doesn't yet exist..

Amongst various things, I loved some of the guest characters. “Think Tank” with Jason Alexander was one of my favorite episodes. The Queen of the Borg was great (Susanna Thompson) though I suppose there were some holes in that concept. I loved the spiritual guide woman when Janeway went through the ritual to save Kes. I thought Seven of Nine’s human father was hot.

Amazing amount of Seinfeld actors wound up on VOY... you just named two right there. Think Tank rocked, maybe Janeway and her spirit guide less so, but... :techman:
