People blame everything on TNZ but that's not right or fair. The two biggest disruptive influences to having serious political topics in Miscellaneous never even participate in TNZ.

I know, right? Like if someone is disruptive in a forum, it must be TNZ's fault!

It is more the fact that some trolls are just so lame that they have to bring their weaksauce to Misc.

Or they've been deemed too big a troll for TNZ, but the staff, in it's infinite wisdom, figures that they're safe to let loose in the general forums...

Typical of a Democratic-Republican

GOOD DAY SIR!

And to you as well, YOU SCOUNDREL!

Theoretically, Misc is the perfect place for civilized debate and discussion; and I really wish it were that in practice. But, of course, it usually ends up being mostly bumper-sticker slogans and Talk Radio quotes being tossed back and forth. Along with the exaggerations, half-truths and lies....

I have nothing against political discussion in Misc. I do have a problem with bating in misc. It's not a problem for regular posters, who don't have to go into a thread. It is a bit more of a headache for Misc moderators. In the past, we've banned political discussion with good reason, but I do think it's better to allow it. At best, inflammatory posts (especially initial posts) are a concern. Actually having a political discussion shouldn't be.

I'm not crazy about it, but it's nice to be able to have "serious" topics in here every once in awhile. It breaks up the monotony of threads about poop and love life issues.
I think we're due for another poop thread. I haven't posted one in a while.

That sounds like TNZ.

That sounds like TNZ.

The difference is in Misc you can't blatantly insult someone.

And there lies your problem - in recent threads there have been a couple of posters who verged into the baitting territory but somehow manage to skate the line as far as the mods were concern.

I don't really mind one way or the other because I don't often take part in political threads.

I certainly would never say that we shouldn't have political threads in Miscellaneous, but there's just so freakin' many of them in TNZ, and I'm not an overly political person. Thus, I'd personally prefer not to see a lot of them pop up in Misc. as well.

Maybe, but they don't stay political for long in TNZ. Well, they don't stay topically political, at any rate. ;)
