Yesterday the news about where the Picard show would air in the U.S. and other parts of the world was announced, and...

They may as well just rename Space to the Star Trek channel—all seven (counting Picard) series are on it. Each week day offers several episodes of one series, rotating through the five older ones.

Hmm. I suppose they’d need to run TAS as well to earn the name change.

WOO!

Well, I'm not too surprised, though I did have some doubts Space could air Picard given it isn't being filmed in Canada. That's one of the reasons why they continue to air Disco even after CBS All Access had a Canadian outlet set up, a show that films in Canada has to air on broadcast TV in Canada in order to get the tax credit for filming in Canada. But then IIRC, Canada is also the only country outside the US to get Short Treks (also on Space). But yes, Space will have Picard! This is good news.

That’s great that we’ll get to watch the Picard show on regular TV, just like with Discovery!

I am a little confused, though, as to why CBS is cutting out its own streaming service, now that it’s available here? I was curious about it when they did it with Twilight Zone, but with this one I’m really at a loss.

I guess they figured the money they get from Bell will be worth more than the extra subscriptions they’d get from our smaller population? But then why even launch CBS All Access here at all, if you’re not going to support it with your marquee shows?

Since Picard isn’t filmed in Canada it is an odd choice.

I suspect CBS All Access is targeting the sports market in Canada as its primary goal.

I haven’t even looked at the Canadian CBS All-Access. And with this I won’t bother. But it is surprising that Bell didn’t just get the linear broadcast rights for SPACE and CBS kept the digital rights for themselves. Maybe Bell has From their Discovery contract first-pass on any new Trek shows produced for the next 15 years or however long is in the contract for both linear broadcast and digital rights, and CBS would only get the show if Bell passed.
